6.0l build. Need advice.
 

Picked up a 6.0l motor on the cheap with an oil pressure issue. Tore it down and it had a spun cam bearing. Block still measures in spec to put a new cam bearing back in.

Planning on using it in a 1952 suburban 4x4 project. Trying to figure out what cam to put back in it. And as it did not come with a transmission or computer, what to do in those departments.

Any insight would be appreciated as I have zero LS experience.

Think I'd wanna know "why" the cam bearing failed with this oil pressure problem.

Might need to be torn down to a bare block to inspect everything else.

I assume you have a lq4..even stock it'll have plenty of power..320ish or so hp..if your wanting a bigger cam check into btr cams..stage 1 and 2..also texas speed cams..be sure along with cam you change lifters and springs..a full rebuild won't be a bad idea...not sure how far your planning on going

what axles are you using? going auto or manual?..gear ratios , tire size, trans type, convertor all come into play...typical fullsize solid axles are to wide for AD body..unless your going for a lot of lift and tires hanging out of fender openings. .

Motor came out of a 2006 Denali. The axles are Dana 44's out of a jeep Wagoneer. Not sure the gear ratio yet. Wanting to go automatic trany.

06 denali should have a lq9 6.0=345hp stock

If it spun the bearing you will have to have it line honed and use a bearing to make up for the line hone i think the bearing spinning is more cuased by the loss of oil pressure nad not the caus eof loss

Talking to the mechanic I got the motor from the oil pump failed and when they changed it out it still showed low pressure. So the owner had them spin in new crank and rod bearings. When they did this the old ones showed no real problems but they changed them out anyways. When it still had too low pressure he had them put a junkyard motor in it. When I pulled the cam the number 3 bearing lobe was blue from heat. Doesn't seem to have affected the block as a new cam bearing goes into place with plenty pressure to hold it in and showed no sign of scaring or wear in the block.

It had over 200,000 miles but you can still see cross hatching in all of the cylinders so it looks like it was taken care of.

Trying to decide how far to tear it down and how much to change building it back up.

My guess, the PO ran it low on oil, you don't know what the mains / rods looked like because they were replaced.

If the new cam bearing drives in tight then your good to go.

If you aredoing the rebuild yourself be aware their is a certain way to install and shim the oil pump on the front of the crankshaft. If it is not done right there will beno oil pressure on startup. google melling oil pump install on ls engines.There is also a certain way to prime these motors sense you cant turn the oil pump like a old small block through the dist hole.
