"Cabbing" off a Blazer
 

Newb to forum, Hi how are you....
I was looking at the preface to the LMC Blazer catalouge and it mentioned that in the early Blazers you had a tailgate standard with the utility version. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this and specificaly if they somehow "cabbed" off the blazer. I would like to seal off the back of my '81 4x4 to create a sort of ultra-shortbox. Anyone tried this? I was thinking of finding a donor truck cab and cutting the back off then fabbing something, but this seems like a LOT of work...
I also have seen a website for a company that had what I believe was a fiberglass part to seal off the cab but it was pretty expensive and sealed flush, which would limit the room inside the cab.

The 69-72's there was a Half cab kit available. Just had a steel pannel you installed and a half top.That was a full convertable truck. Not sure there were any kits available to do that on a truck like yours. I have seen a K5 that had a top that made it look like a extended cab but unsure if it was a kit or a home brew deal.

The tailgate you are talking about was used with the soft top that was availible for the K5's. GM never "sealed" off the cab making a "pickup".

I haven't ever seen one from the back or a picture of one, but I wuold like to see it.

I really like the tonneau cover on the blazer crepro site, but don't like the price ($750). Any cheaper alternatives for a tonneau (hard or soft) so that I can drive around with the top off but not worry about people noticing things left in the back (like tools, backpacks, etc...theives piss me off...)?

www.ck5.com Think somebody has a STC soft one used in the forsale forum. The Soft top from STC is $640 for a full top. I think the half top like you have is around $540. The tooneau is like $450.

Another option is to have a apposterior ( misspellled I'm sure, a person who redoes chairs, and the like) make a custom top. I had one made to find over my roll cage as it was custom fabricated. Made it out of Army tent style canvas and treated it with the same watertreatment as you would for a large canvas tent. Total cost under 300, and just want I needed. :D
