96 Z71 remote door lock question.

1 Attachment(s)
Hey Folks, I'm back into trying to get the remote door lock function working. I have purchased the remote sensor and want to install it. I have most every thing removed from the dash and still can't see where the sensor would go. It looks like I will need to remove the entire dash to get to the plugs that plug into the sensor. Here's a pic from the service manual but it doesn't say anything about how to get to it. The dash panel seems to be all molded plastic with no opening to get to the wiring behind it. I welcome any advice if anyone else has done this. I am assuming that the cable with the two plugs is there as I my truck does have power locks.

Are you looking to install your module or buy a module?

I got the p/n from my local Chevy dealer and bought one on EBay. The pic shows two connectors and that matches what I have. The manual says it's in the center of the dash but so far I haven't found anything that looks like the picture. It's a single cab truck with very little room to see under the dash. I'll keep looking as I've spent too much money and time to stop now. I don't drive the truck very often so I don't have to be in a hurry.

It’s mounted on the inside of a dash brace. Very difficult to see from the bottom up. Look for the brace by the gas/brake pedal.

At this point I'm going to give up. My truck has power locks so from looking at the pic in the svc manual I thought maybe the wiring for the remote sensor would be there and all I had to do was plug it in and program the remote. I'm a little surprised that the cable isn't there as I'm guessing that most trucks that came with power locks probably came with remotes and used the same wiring harness. Can't win them all.

I've never seen this body style truck with a remote. My '99 doesn't have one and it's loaded.

You could be right. My truck was ordered by the original purchaser, a friend of the person I bought it from, with most every option available but doesn't have remotes. It always seemed strange to me. The service manual shows the location of the remote sensor but doesn't say that remotes were not available on single cab trucks. It doesn't make sense that you couldn't get them on a truck as they were available on Suburbans.

I think the newer Suburban would have it because it's OBS but with the updated electrical system. After they stopped using the black engine computer.

My 1997 Silverado came with factory remotes, black box PCM and I am the original owner.

After a quick search remote locks seem to be a rare option with RPO code AU0, so it sounds like a stand alone harness.

After looking through the wiring diagrams in the service manual I've concluded that adding the remotes will be more trouble than I want to go through right now. I'll keep the remote sensor and maybe take another look at adding it later. Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone.
