starter no start!!

alright let me sum up the history of this whole mess real quick. swapped a 350 out for a 454, kept the th350 for now. had truck running for about two days. i had wired the whole lose the external voltage regulator thing backwards and drained my battery, got a new alternator and fixed wiring, did the remove positive terminal while truck is runing and truck keeps running so guess im good there. then the starter craps itself. so i get a remanu from autozone and all i get is a fast ticking sound. not turning the engine at all, so i take the starter back and try another one, it was made in china! same thing. fast ticking no start. so i have 12v reading at my battery gauge. and my electric fans and radio work fine. but the starter wont engauge! it has the same amount of teeth as the last one that worked fine for two days so i am thinking i am good there. any help is appericated i am about ready to push this thing off a cliff. should have just kept my tired old 30 psi oil pressure 350 in there, at least that pos started!!

Starter issues, Hmmm. I've one as well. 72 chev. rebuilt orig.eng. + Some new goodies, mostly old original at a glance. New HEI not long ago...oh wait, It acts "old". Starts most of the time. nothing occassionally. "nothing". So a light tap (gentle with a deadblow) on the uncovered coil, and whala! she's runnin again. Dielectric under chip seemed to help...but the gremlin is back. bummer...any feedback?
