Garage door opens up and out, opposite of normal
I don't think(?) it was a specifically a thread about the door. So a garage door usually opens on tracks. They go straight up and then curve into the shop and the door is up high and flat. Typical way a door opens.
This one had the tracks on the outside with the curves going outside away from the shop and the door was still flat but it was a nice outdoor cover at that point. I feel like when the door was closed the curved portion somehow folded in flat against the shop. Im not even positive it was here on the board. |

I have seenthat style i think in southwest or texas. Dont think they would work in northern snow areas. Dont have any pictures though.

It was a standard roll up paneled door. I had never seen anything like it. And I was surprised it would even work.
None of the posted doors. I have seen all of those. And as far as it not working in a northern snow state, ya gotta keep that door closed to keep the heat in =) Ill keep looking. I hope it wasnt just some weird dream i had lol! |

Wow, that is a neat-o thread richard2717 gave the link to. If I were going to do this I would make my own like their forum member Lynden shows in the 5th post down in the thread, Hangar Style Bifold Door #4.
The video shows a metal one and a wooden framed one. I think you could take a standard 4 panel roll up door and fuse the top 2 panels together with angle iron, and fuse the bottom 2 panels together, to make the door fold in the middle. Then fabricate the wheel brackets, counterweight pulley system, and latch. |
