ok.. being a noob here they shoved me over here with my Pickup project... :metal:

1972 GMC C-?? Napco 4x4 18,000 miles... ditched the 350 chevy for an 8v71 Detroit and a RTO-9513 ... ditched the Rockwell T233 for a T1138... 11r22.5 rubber and an 11ft box...

Air shift tranny and transfer, air ebrake and juice brakes w/hydraboost.

This is the mockup before the complete frame up build started...

Man,I love that thing! What a nice truck. Are you going to copy the front fenders on the bed? That thing is going to be awesome...Detroit power to boot!

I picked up the C-60 dump ( tall deck 427 for $500 LOL) for the 8 inch wide front fenders and the Hydraulics pack for my Winch... I am gonna plasma cut off the 8 front fenders and make the rear dually fenders out of them to match

Should look factory :gmc2:

Re: 1972 GMC C-?? 4x4 pickup with 71 series power

Thats a great truck. When you make your rear fenders, think about a running board full length from front to back. It will really tie everything together for a "factory look".

That reminds me of an old mud bogger from Tucson. It was called Cyclops. Course it had tractor tires on it. I like the extra long bed, thought about that for a long wheel base 1 ton.

Wow, it looks like we have similar taste in trucks! Mine is not 4 wheel drive, I've considered throwing some Rockwells under it and making it 4wd but I want to keep the two speed rear end. Mine still has the original 327 in it, I'll probably end up with a Cummins in it due to availability and price. Here is a picture of mine taken early July 2012.

Includes a longer bed than a longhorn (a Longhorn has just 6" added)
...but yup...makes it a Super-long custom for sure rkn463!

The longer bed would be more appropriate to a larger truck and looks great!

Keep up the pics!

I've considered having a "Longerhorn" emblem made. If so that will be many years down the line.

Re: 1972 GMC C-?? 4x4 pickup with 71 series power

LOL i guess.... I seemed the right thing to do to keep the balance of the truck... I added 28" of box and I think I will leave it partitioned as I plan on locating the fuel tank, toolbox and batteries in the section behind the cab.... the engine/transmission choice along with the 4x4 drive line length kept me from shortening the frame...

Just finishing up the drive line and then the body and assembly starts...

The truck was an airport fire rescue unit with 18,000 miles on it,, the front wheels had never been off...

Progress... frame stripped, primed, and painted, 8v71 Detroit and RTO-9513/T-1138 Transfer case installed with three new drive shafts... Brakes freshened up and new brakelines run to convert to a dual line with hydraboost. Got the cab to fit in the stock location over that big Lump-o-motor... Gonna need some more massaging on the firewall to get the valve covers off... I am considering a tilt front end for serviceability

Can you say DogHouse LOL at least access to the Air compressor and PS pump will be easy...

Now things should pick up speed...

coming along nicely. That should have more power than you'll ever need.

Man I'm glad to see this thread go active again! I haven't done anything with mine except drive around the ranch in it. Maybe your progress will be motivation enough to kick start me.
