1972 gas tank skid plate

I’m replacing the tank on my 72’ blazer and it has an original skid plate installed. It’s not listed on the spid. Did all 1972 blazers come with this skid plate? I’m on the fence about running it.

My SPID lists 1NA410 Skid Plate, but I believe that's the one under the transfer case. There's not a separate identification for the gas tank plate on mine.

It could be a aftermarket gas tank skit plate. Hickey Enterprise sold them in there catalog.

The skid plate option included both the transfer case and the fuel tank skid plates.

I’ve seen the transfer case skid plate reproduced by a board member. Anyone made an oem style gas tank skid plate?

My 72 lists the same but I have no skid plate under the T case only the gas tank. Mine is a 3ott with dana 20 t case.

I sent him a PM, but looks like he hasn't logged on in over a year. The thread was from 2003. Hopefully he'll respond.:chevy:

Re: 1972 gas tank skid plate

My '71 GMC Jimmy has a skid plate under the gas tank. It also had a skid plate under the transmission/Xfer case, too, but I pulled it during a clutch swap, and haven't replaced it yet.
With about 45 bolts securing the gas tank armor on, I have not been enthusiastic about pulling it to get at the in-tank fuel sender. My gas gauge reads zero. By extracting the Tan wire from the fuse block, the needle points to 3 O'Clock. For reference, I keep a log of my miles to and from locations, and track how many gallons I bought. By topping off the 20 gallon tank every 100 miles or so, I avoid fuel starvation.
Someday, when I build a proper garage, I can fix this gripe, but the Gas Gauge was like that when I bought the truck in 1995.
