Rear Frame Mounted Tank Ideas
 

Any advice on between frame mount rear fuel tanks?

I have seen blazer tanks etc but really dont want to have to cut box crossmembers or do any hacking!

Would like to find a large capacity frame mount with maybe a nice looking powder coated skid plate for looks.

I'm doing wood bed and would have no issue with top fuel or hidden wheel well fill. Like the tailight option but not a fan of LED tailights.

Boyd Welding looks to be nice?

Any idea's? Any Pics?

I took the cross members out of the suburban to go with the tank remove cross members from truck frame replace them with the burbon ones bolt in tank like stock
If you use a new tank you could easily move filler neck over
I will also be welding a late model gas tank ring to use 03 fuel modual for ls swap

I myself have used the Boyd fuel tank on two different trucks, one was tank with sender. The other was the efi tank with sender. No modifications to frame just bolt it in. They both turned out very good. Thanks

Sorry these are the only pictures that I have, this is the efi tank. I will have to see if I can get some pictures of the other build.

I do not have installed yet working on it
Helped my cousin setup his 69 low rider 4 6 drop same tank setup he never bottomed out the tank. a arms and front cross member would bottom out

You can see on the old tank how it sits flush with the top frame rail you can also see how the straps ran and see the corresponding strap bolt holes on the cross member out of a 70s burbon

Seen more then a few pictures of guys hanging the tank bellow the bottom frame rail and I imagine that would hit the ground often

Look up vette works for 700 you can buy this tank already built blazer burbon tank with 4th gen camaro fuel pump ring welded on same fuel pump assembly as my 03 silverado donor

I fitted a 31 gallon 90 Blazer tank in my shortbed. Note that I extended the rear frame rails about 3". Link to build thread in my signature. I looked and appears I started on tank work page 4 post#99.

I read your blog Richard and a very nice job! I'm leaning towards the Boyd Tank for now. I would love to see someone build a plastic formed tank that can mount between frame rails and be formed under frame cross members and larger capacity when using plastic. Not only would it be black plastic that would blend well with frame color it could also be creative with fill positons, form fitted but light, easily mounted and then offer a good looking skid plate protector to hide it. Everyone is using steel or aluminum whic is great but not as fit friendly as plastic could be.

Just my thoughts!

I'm going to be installing a 1990 Jeep Wrangler tank before too long. It is an EFI tank w/ baffles. I believe you just need to add a cross brace behind the tank for added support. It's a 15 gallon tank, but from pics I've seen, it fits well.

How many gallons are those 2 Boyds tanks, you used???

It's my understanding that the 67-72 Boyd's tank (which I believe the 66 and earlier tanks is same capacity?), fits short and long bed frames.
My 67 and 68 are both long beds, and will be built as such. I'm not close enough to needing a tank yet (I WILL be buying a Boyd's tank).

I intend to inquire with them about a larger capacity tank for by long bed pickups.....

Hi, The Boyd fuel tank for’63-72 trucks is 19 gallon tank. I ordered mine directly from Boyd, they are very good to work with. If you want side fill or bed fill, efi pump, roll over valve, different types of sending units.

The fuel tank "space" on the long bed and short bed are the same, fyi. The tank also rides fairly close to my aftermarket panhard bar as it is tighter than you would think.

I have a Boyd's and I can't recommend it enough. Just way nicer than other tanks I've seen and bolts right in, and a pretty good price.

Thanks I believe until something better comes along it will be a Boyd Tank as I planned but wanted ti verify.

I went with a Boyd’s tank and was wondering how much of it you would see from the sides and from behind. Very happy with the tank now that I have it in.

Like the tank, and the look mine will be lifted 4" and was curious what the side mounts in picture go to?
