time to gather LS parts
Well, my 305 is still running but it appears to have damage in cylinder 5. I've thought about keeping a SBC and maybe adding fuel injection, but going to a simple 5.3 I think will be the goal. I'm in no hurry as I honestly don't have much time on my hands. Is anyone aware of companies that typically have sales throughout the year on their LS swap components? I figure I might as well wait and take advantage of them when they come around.
I'm seriously considering Holley's Blackheart components since they have mounts that let me keep the low mount AC which is a must. I'm open to other suggestions though. I'd prefer to not have to make a bunch of custom parts. The more likely to bolt everything in the better. Thanks |
Re: time to gather LS parts
I have the Blackheart components. If I did it again, I would get the Speedway swap kit since it is almost the same as the Blackheart. Appears to be on backorder though...
https://www.speedwaymotors.com/1967-...it,487640.html Looks like you can get the parts separately for less...but reading the reviews it looks like they may have 'recalled' the engine mounts. Probably why they are out of stock. I bet they show backordered so they can improve them before selling more... https://www.speedwaymotors.com/1967-...ck,445271.html https://www.speedwaymotors.com/1967-...er,474035.html These must be the engine mounts in their kit, but you can cross reference and get some for cheaper. I went with inexpensive rubber mounts instead of the Blackheart urethane engine mounts: https://www.speedwaymotors.com/1998-...de,405798.html |
Re: time to gather LS parts
Thank you. I didn't know Speedway offered a kit. I see it's for 67-72 though. Would that also fit our squarebodies?

Re: time to gather LS parts
Guess I should have been tipped off the the 305 and read your signature. Didn't realize you were talking squarebody.
It doesn't look like they have the 73-87 parts yet. I wouldn't doubt if they were coming with them in the future... |
Re: time to gather LS parts
If you have time on your side watch the for sale section, craigslist, and Facebook marketplace, square body & LS groups for parts. People all the time are looking to sell their new or slightly used parts and if you're in the market it can save you a good amount. Just know what you're looking for so you can be aware of part #'s and such and use vague search terms as well as specifics since people don't always give the best item descriptions.

That's a good idea, too. I'll keep it in mind as I go. I'm formulating my plans as we speak.

Re: time to gather LS parts
I'm to cheap to buy the "kit" LS swap stuff. I use 2002 Camaro oil pan and FEA from various web sites on my LS swaps. I try use stock GM parts so parts are only as far away as the local NAPA store.

Re: time to gather LS parts
I have the ability to make my own stuff. I don't have the time. I do plan to make my own exhaust. Possibly my own headers too.
I'll be mixing in factory parts as much as I can. There will always be minor fabrications needed with that route. |
Re: time to gather LS parts
Tejas engine mounts if your building a 73 to 87. They allow you to use stock truck pan and fit perfectly.

Will their mounts allow use of the factory LS AC compressor? I appreciate the lead. Thank you. |
