Horn problem

Horn quit blowing. Grounding horn button pin on relay sounds horn - so must be in column. I took contact parts out of the wheel and there was some rust which I cleaned - still wont work. I checked spring loaded button with a dvom to the connector and got 67 ohms - I would have thought it should have been below maybe 5 or less. Is 67 enought to trigger relay?

I then thought maybe I assembled contact wrong - read many post. I put spring disk on wheel raized center up, then the cup, then plastic retainer through the holes and then screwed down. Spring disk appeared centered.

Got to looking at the assembly and I dont understand how it works. The spring disk get a ground from contact with medal hub in wheel. The spring loaded button connects the relay to the spring disk - looks like it would blow all the time.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Re: Horn problem

The horn on my 63 wouldn't work because the wire from the plug at the firewall to the plug at the horn had melted completely and was broken in several places. I replaced that section of the wire and have had a working horn ever since

Re: Horn problem

Got time today to look at situation in the daylight. Found that the spring disk actually fits in a recess in the 'plastic' portion of the sterring wheel so is insulated from the metal hub.
Also remeasured resistance from spring loaded button to plug and found about 13 ohms. Grounding button blew horn OK.

Turns out steering shaft is not suppling ground. Will have to scope it out later.
Thanks for responces
