Longer Wheel Studs
I have searched all over this forum, Google, Bing, Slummit Racing, Jeg's, Dorman...etc. :help:
This has to be the place to ask since all the drag truck cats MUST have longer studs to race. When I was racing a 1971 ElCamino SS back in the 90's, finding longer wheel studs for that rig was as easy as going down to the local parts store or tire shop and picking some up and pressing them in. I can't find any that are the length I want to come through the lug nut like in a racing application to be NHRA legal. I plan on making some passes in the truck once it's back up and running, so I will need longer wheel studs. I will be using stock discs (1972 GMC) up front and have Moser axles out back. I have old school ET 15x10 slot mags out back and will be running some sort of DOT radial drag tire. 15x7 ET slots up front. Where in the wide world of sports is a cat to find longer studs? :) Gary |
Re: Longer Wheel Studs
Mr gasket 4310g are the only ones I have found. I have not used them.. But also need longer studs on my setup.

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
The stock lugs are 1/2"-20 with a .530 knurl. Those have a .480 knurl and are 7/16"-20. I don't mind switching to a smaller diameter stud with the correct knurl if that's what I have to do to get longer ones in there.

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
Moroso should have what your after. This is in the ballpark. Worse case you drill the holes slightly bigger. http://www.moroso.com/eb/catalog/nav...nuId=main.menu

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
That is exactly what I'm looking for. Guess I didn't broaden my search far enough. Granted I hadn't made any phone calls yet. But it just seemed like there was nothing really close to what I wanted in a 3" length stud.

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
You aint the first guy doing this. Moroso has a ton of the harder to find stuff especially for drag racing.

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
ARP makes some real nice stuff.
See if you find what you need here. http://arp-bolts.com/kits/Product.php?PL=55 |

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
That is very unfortunate. Even a knuckledragger like myself... I am a product of technology and resort to phone orders only after I've exhausted all my online research.
I can remember calling in orders on the rotary phone in my dad's shop to P.A.W. or to the local speed shop. Then staying on the line with the sales rep for an hour BSing about cars and drag racing. :) Then there were "Super Shops"... I learned to avoid those places as the sales cats worked on commission. They pushed certain brand name parts and made you feel guilty about not using them. Lots of cool new sparkly high performance parts... but tools worked behind the counters at most stores. Best part about them was that you could get stuff from the likes of Crower, Stef's or Rhoades over the counter. Gary |
Re: Longer Wheel Studs
I used Moroso, they have 3 inch x 1/2 with the .520 knurl

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
P.A.W. I remember that giant catalog that they had it was like three inch thick, I only bought tires from Super Shops after I found out about Jegs. I went to one of the P.A.W. warehouses in CA when I lived there and it was as big as the catalog, thanks for the memories.

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
P.A.W. had all the rebuild kits in the front of their giant catalogs... "Super Gorilla 426 Small Block Chevy Performance Long Block Kit".
Always chuckled at the Super Gorilla description. Gary |
Re: Longer Wheel Studs
I spent a ton of money at Super Shops back in the day.

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
Does anybody know of a longer press in stud with .520 knurl?

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
Moser carries a pretty good selection of studs too last I checked. I got a set from them last time I ordered axles.

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
I too need longer studs and I researched for ever and could find a lot of 3" 1/2-20 studs but only one that had the correct knurl diameter. And I hated to buy them because they are $10 a piece. They are Baer brake studs part # 136-6280012 from jegs.

Thank you for providing the part number. I've been searching all over.

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
Resurrecting this zombie of a thread!
So I too needed longer wheel studs and I found this thread. Bought 10 of the 6280012 and 5 on one side pressed in beautifully and after I pressed out the factory studs on the other side, I went to press in the new studs and the hole in the flange was far to big for knurling. Ends up that I need 5 studs with .620 knurling which is 6280010. Somebody in the past history of that axle has either found another axle that fit during a replacement (which I doubt), drilled out the flange for .620 studs and pressed them in, or the factory ran out of .530 studs and switched over to .620. Either way, I’m now waiting on 5 more long studs from Jegs. The lesson here is don’t be like me and _measure_ what size of stud you will need before you order parts, my friends! |
