Maybe I'll get a 4/6 outta this with a roll pan. :metal:

I didn't think I was going to get around to lowering this truck this year, guess things sometimes work out backwards. With the money I get I'm fairly sure I'll be able to not only fix the truck but do custom work as well.

Pics??

Today was good.

Here's some pictures of the damage. The claims adjuster came out Friday and told me it's more than likely totaled which means I'll buy it back from salvage and fix it from there.

I put my rally wheels on, fronts are 15/7 and rears are 15/8. I was going to take some pictures of it this weekend.....these weren't the pictures I had in mind.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

I have good news. Last Friday the appraiser came out and looked at my truck. Monday I got the results of the damage. They're going to total the truck, I'm buying it back and will have plenty of money to fix it and do a little customizing.

I also found out, Monday after I'd gotten my claims in, that the woman that hit me DID have insurance and had already been paid out before reporting that she'd hit me and contacting my agent with her information. That speaks volumes about these people.

Today I picked up all my new front end parts. I got a fender, paintable grille, paintable bumper, I've decided to "black it out". All I need to do now is send in paperwork and I've got the okay to start working on it.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

The last couple of weekends I worked on my black truck.

I started by shaving the holes in the bumper and pulling the dents out of the third brake light and hood. I also pulled the roll-pan off the white truck primed it black, it won't be needing it any more, I bought a steel roll-pan a few weeks back from a friend. I'll be ordering a 4/6 lowering kit in the next week.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

A lot has happened in the last week. I ordered a set of McGaughy's drop spindles and a flip kit from AVS. All this weekend I spent working on the truck. Starting on Friday night with the flip kit. Saturday I moved on to the front, it went smoothly until I got to the drivers side lower ball joint torn boot. That wasn't to bad, but it slowed me down. Sunday I spent on the C-Notch and Monday after work I put the helper bag on the back. I still need to raise the crossover pipe, that scrapes on hard bumps. So now I have to order a good set of shocks and get it aligned and I'm good to go.

With all that work done, I took my 17's off my white truck and put them on this one. I'll just have to find a new set for that one.

Now I'm really loving this truck! :metal:

nice trucks and awesome progress on both! sucks about the wreck but sounds like its working out well!! You know.... i dont seem to really like a vehicle unless I have to rebuild it from a wreck or major mechanical breakdown... if I get them and they are good to go I usually loose interest or get bored.

What is your drop in the front and back? I have a 1995 GMC single cab like yours I'm looking to drop - I put some 80's - rally wheels on it and it looks good but yours looks better!

Thanks. I know what you mean. This is the fourth truck in four years for me. I was hoping this one would stay in one piece for a while so I could finish the other one. It only sort of sucked when this one got wrecked because I had to stop working on the white one, but not really because now I get to drive one that is fixed up the way I like it.

There is never a dumb question, just dumb answers. The drop turned out to be more of a 4.5/6 for some reason. In my opinion the 4/6 is the best looking suspention set up that still rides well on the street. Rallies are always a good choice. By the way most men like pictures over reading, my wife calls this site truck porn.:chevy:

I've been spending the weekdays in Wyoming for work and haven't had much time for projects on the weekends between keeping the house going and trying to spend time with family. I've got two more weeks in Rock springs.:smoke:

Wow, your post made laugh....

I at one time bought a 89 suburban non running, it was a no start issue....

I dug into it and spent maybe 200 as I got all used sensors, and parts... I wanted to leave the gastank as the last gas*( no pun intended)* I replaced everything my brain could thing of... so next thing was... hyou guessed it.. the gas tank... turns out... the filler hose( as I like to call it) was split... exactly the same as yours..... I had no codes... yet I had spark... air.... no ecm issues... but had no fuel.... WE all know many sensors cause a no fuel issue... I just went threw a no spark issue on a 89 s15 jimmy 4.3l... and sure ennough, it was the intake water tempeture sensor......

I am looking forward to the rest of this thread and your build... cheers...

Sorry for the slow response, my Internet's been down. Funny thing you should bring up the fuel pump. Last weekend I went out to move it, started right up ran for five seconds then died. I could here the fuel pump prime, but no fuel to the TBI. I figured it was a bad fuel pump. Me and my brother pulled the bed off again and sure enough the same hose to the pump had split. So I bought some high pressure hose and swapped that in.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

Finally, I've had some time to work on the 93!

Last weekend I finished up the exhaust. I ran the drivers side past the trany then Y into the passenger. I also put a high flow cat and a 3 chamber muffler with a down pipe just past the cab. Its sound pretty good for a V6. (Sorry no pics.) While under the truck, I also put a carrier bearing spacer in, its a two inch rise just enough so the drive line clears the cab. I'll make sure to take some pictures this weekend.:chevy:

I didn't start a build thread on the black one because I didn't plan on taking it as far as I did; but as circumstances made me rearrange priorities I ended up spending more time and money on the black truck than I expected too. Plus, I'm taking a lot of parts off the white truck and putting them on the black truck as I go so it's kinda the same thing....

In recent weeks I've been spending time on the black because the pass-lock-security-system has been giving me fits. I seem to have figured out the system by cutting the yellow wire in the ignition, which was real fun to figure out. :uhmk:

As far as the white truck goes, I ordered a two link and panhard bar--still waiting for that to show up. I'm hoping that shows up this weekend, if not I'm going to pull the tranny cross-member out and try to raise it a couple of inches.

I'll be checking your build right about now...

So what are you gonna do bag the white one and static the other and daily drive it?
The black one looks good lowered and with either set of wheels

Yup. The white truck is the bagged show truck and the black one is my work truck. The black one is static with rear helper bags. I've been known to throw 1200 lbs. of wire in the back just for fun.:metal:

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

This weekend I spent prepping the frame for the 2 link, which should be here Thursday. I also stripped the shock towers, rear leaf spring bracket, bump stop brackets and shock tabs on the axle.

I decided to mount the bags to the 2 link bars for a better ride. I had to order the brackets. I did received my 2 link bars and track bar. Installed those today just waiting for the bag brackets.

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

Not much going on in the last week. I'm still waiting for the rest of the 2 link so I started pulling the interior out. This weekend I took the dash out. I can't believe how many screws hold the thing in.

Next is to pull the rest of the interior including the seat which is going in my black truck. I've been searching for some power leather ones.

19723DR 10-31-2010 07:13 PM

Re: Project ''Second Time Around''

Well I finally received the rest of my 2-link parts. This weekend I removed the old axle saddles and welded on the new ones. I was originally going to use the flip kit that was on it, but because of the 2 link bars, it put the pinion angle way off. Also the 2-link bars are narrower than the leaf springs so the bottom plates are too wide, and the old U-bolts are too short. So I ordered the individual parts from Ekstensive Metalworks because their stuff would match. Just recently they've been selling individual parts, and the funny thing is, is now I have a complete flip kit when I just bought one for my black truck.

The 2-link is all bolted in, The U-bolts still need to be cut shorter. Next is the bag mounts.
