New NP205 aluminum cover plate

Resealing, and repainting my NP205 transfer case, in preparation for it to be mated to my new Tremec 4050 5 spd trans, and in the process we noticed that the cover plate that actually supports one of the shafts, had stress cracks in it. Not surprising actually, since it's thin aluminum. Considering the roll it plays in the functioning of the transfer case, i'm surprised they didn't make it beefier. So i ordered up a new billet one from Northwest Fabs, and wow! This thing is AMAZING!!! Just wanted to share. I had only found like two companies that made a better cover plate.

Thanks for sharing. I wasn't aware of anyone making a beefier, or even a replacement, cover. How hurtful was it to your wallet? Just so I'm better prepare when I look into this

You can order is without the bearings and cover plate. I ordered it with. Total was just a tad over $200. Totally worth it in my opinion. When you see that it is what actually supports one of the main shafts, it makes you wonder why they didn't make it beefier. I'm also suprised that its not mentioned as a weak spot. Mine had stress cracks, and i have no doubts that if i would have when off roading and really put it under stress that i would have blown it apart.

Interesting it uses the bearing cup like the less desirable syncro 205's. Maybe a good thing? Will bookmark this until a need arrives. My 205 has no need for this piece at this time.

Nice. I've always wondered why that piece was even aluminum. For styling sake, I'd like to see one made with fins to go with the differential covers and that period look. A custom made one could easily cost 5x what this one does. Maybe no that bad. But considering the first one is the hardest and it's a vital part of the mechanism, not just a cover
