Help with Axle Swapping

I have a 68 C10 w/ stock 12 bolt 6 lug rear end. I have read in another Forum that when using the frt spindles (5 lug) let say from a 1996 Tahoe 5 bolt lug truck that it would be the right move to also get the rear axles being it is also a 12 bolt rear end to end up with a complete 5 lug conversion setup onto my 68 C10.

PS, I have the spindles & calipers from that Tahoe on my truck w/ after market 6 lug x 1 1/4" rotors already and other than the 22" rims & tires it seams to do OK with what little I have drove it. *** ? will that axle swap work or not. Thanks in advance, mjgord51

You sure it is a 96 Tahoe? I did not think they would even bolt up and the 12 bolt went away in the mid 80's.

Here is the casting #'s for whats on my truck now 15649947 L & 15649948 R. While on other Forums reading other peoples ?'s the answers given back were identified as " His " sons Tahoe had the #'s used on his truck. Same post also said too get the rear Axles to make a 5 lug swap as long as it was a 12 bolt as is like mine is also a 12 bolt. An other post said the spindles were from a 92 - 02 Chevy or GMC truck. I am having no luck with the disc's hoses matching, they might be just some thing that just worked for the install. Maybe I need to go to the Dealer and have them run the #'s. I like going on these Forums and asking ?'s and getting more then one persons opinion. Looking up who & what back grounds they have well that's a judgment call you have to make your self. Thanks, mjgord51

A stock 12bolt truck 68 rear housing & axles are narrower than 73-87 housings by 1.5" & 3" vs the 88 & later rear ends.

Well its back to the drawing board, maybe this Junk Yard miss matching of newer stock parts to older fitment is for the birds! I guess a rear end 5 lug Axle conversion sounds more easy to do than what I was told ( not this forum) that would work. Thanks for making up my mind for me LOL, mjgord51

You can buy 5 lug axles for 319 bucks from http://www.earlyclassic.com/catalog.aspx then just swap the drums over to 5 lug and the rear is done.On the front most use 73-87 spindles and brakes.
