I got my center Ac vent cut in today. I made a template off of chewychevy67's cab (Thanks again!) It looks like I'll have to do some filler work at the top as it does not fit well at all up there. When comparing the two dashes, it looks like my cab (72) to Chewy's (67) the stamping may have gotten worn out over the years as my cab is quite rounded out along the top edge where the dash pads mounts and his is a nice sharp line.

First picture is Chewy's Dash. I don't know if you can see what I mean or not here.

I got my dash piece cut and welded in today. Fit is pretty good with minimal warping. Only about 1/8" out at the worst spot so not too much filler needed.

I actually have 4 of them but it was a huge pain to try and get them set up in this instance otherwise I would have used them for sure.

It's been a while since I checked your project, I love the bucket seats and mounts. Very nice work. I have the stock mounts and the drivers side adjuster tend to get a little slack in them with age and rock side to side.

Hey thanks for checking back in! The sloppy side to side motion is what really got me started on the whole idea. My dad's truck has the factory sliders and his has the side to side rock as well. I'm glad you like the brackets, I think that they will look almost stock in there.

It feels like I've been away from here for too long, almost being on page 2 and all.:lol: Life had me busy with other responsibilities and such for the last few weeks. I had to take care of a bathroom renovation that was well needed, which is extremely fun when it is the only bathroom in the house. :dohh: I'm hoping to be back on once a week with the truck but who knows what the rest of the summer will bring. Might be a little tricky sticking to it with kid #2 on the way in September but all will be good. The wife and I are looking forward to it and also dreading it at the same time.:crazy::lol:

Today I jumped out into the shop for the afternoon and started back on sanding.....sanding.....and more sanding. The plan is to get the whole inside of the cab sanded down, filled and primed before baby comes and I have little time in there. We'll see if I can make it happen. Wish me luck. :gmc2:

Well the inside of the cab roof and dash are now sanded down and ready for filler. I will need to sand a bit more around the rear window after I pull the seats as they are in the way. I am also going to cut out the speaker openings in my door pillars so I can sand and fill the kick panel areas.

What sanding equipment are you using? A DA with 80 grit? How about getting in the nooks and crannies?

Yes I use a DA with 80 grit and then all the nooks and crannies have been sanded by hand. It sucks :lol:

Well that was nerve racking! No going back now. I really like the location for a speaker, it's just unfortunate that it places it so close to the door seal. I'm quite confident that I can make it invisible there though. The plan is to have modern conveniences and electronics but to not look like it has any modern conveniences.

Other side cut out today and started smoothing out welds on the inside of the firewall. It is wildly uncomfortable trying to get in there to get it all done but should be worth the end result!:metal:

Haha yeah. I have so many prior obligations during the summer that it gets nearly impossible to find time to get into the shop. Last year we discovered that the whole front wall of our cabin is rotten and pretty well turned to dust so that has been the number one priority this year before it collapses. Hopefully soon I can get even one day in there.

Well as per normal summers around here, I have not had a chance to get anything done on the truck. As we await the birth of our second kid which will be any day now I'm sure, I'm hopeful that I will be able to sneak out here and there to accomplish something, anything really on the truck.:lol: Summer is winding down and that should hopefully mean that I can get back on my weekly routine again. I recently checked out a local car show and am feeling very inspired to get back to it after seeing this truck. It is nearly my vision for what I want in terms of ride height, trim, wheels, quality of bodywork and paint, ect.

My awesome wife told me to go work on my truck this afternoon even though we are less than a week from the due date.:metal: It was nice to get out and get something accomplished, even though it was not a very fun job. I went at the inside of the firewall with a wire wheel to get ready for primer. I almost got the driver side complete. There are some spots that I need a smaller wire brush attachment to reach but other than that, it's pretty well there.

I have just noticed that my stereo box for behind my seat may need to be re-planned out a little bit. My pressboard has expanded and since the metal frame obviously isn't, it has got some pretty warped spots in it. Now I have to come up with a new substrate that will work. Might have to use sheet metal as I can't be much thicker than 1/8".:dum:

Well today was baby day. Lochlan Werner was born at 9:43 AM. Weighing in at 7 lbs 5 oz with a length of 21". Both baby and mom are doing well.:)

More progress made on the dash today. I also took the GMC lettering I had cut out of the fender emblem and ground it down so it was thin and sleek. I'm still toying with the idea of using these on the dash where I removed the speaker grill. I would paint the letters the same colour as the dash so that it would be subtle. Any thoughts on this?

So a couple weekends ago, I made a trip out to the wrecker to get the steering column bracket that my brother stole from me. Haha guess he lost his. Anyway, I found this very nice straight upper grille moulding that I needed very badly as mine is trashed. I didn't want to play around with aftermarket parts and this piece has been very elusive up till now. I was glad to score it for $40 even though I had to take the whole mangled grille as I had no way to seperate them out there.

I also ordered a new set of defrost vents so I can make sure they fit properly in the dash. They seem to be the wrong radius in the corners but there is a pretty good chance that is just how they are. I have done some fine sanding on the passenger one to get it fitting better and am happy with the result. Might do a bit more touch ups on it and then I can repeat for the drivers side.

I think that looks sweet, Painted the same color as the dash would make it look embossed. Subtle details are fun :) Nice work on your truck!

I got the defrost vents fitting better than factory now. I had to do some sanding on the corners of them and adjusting of the flanges but they fit very nice and tight now. I also finished sanding the last of the filler on the dash and am ready for primer on that area now. I also wanted to fix a defect in the weatherstrip flange on my driver door. For some reason it got substantially wider at the front corner and I didn't want any issues went fitting the weatherstrip so I took care of that issue.
