VIN Decoding
1 Attachment(s)
Hello All, Im a newby to the forum.
Purchased a 1970 GMC 1/2 ton last month. Ive owned a 1969 and a 72, but that was 30 years ago and sold them back then. Love these old pick ups and had to have another one. Going through the VIN decoder on this site and crosschecking with what I have, made no sense. Also tried to look to see if the truck was built in Canada, but could not find any information a to why its different. The VIN on the truck is CE134AZ50807. I would be grateful with any help you can provide |

Re: VIN Decoding
Thanks 70cst
The standard VIN does not match what I have ie, 1967-1972 VIN Number Codes Example: CE149J 100001 mine is CE134AZ50807 The last six digits should be numbers, which they are the manufacturing sequence. Mine has a Z. Also, the fifth digit should be a 0, my VIN is a 4 |

Re: VIN Decoding
Thanks Bruceman1968
I've been doing a lot of reading on different subjects, and there's a lot to learn. I'm excited to see that there is a large community of enthusiasts for these trucks. I am looking forward to taking my 70 GMC down for a total rebuild. |
Re: VIN Decoding
Any way to tell what factory color was via VIN? I know there are reproduction SPID's out there; just want to get factory paint code and options. Thanks.

Re: VIN Decoding
Oh I think I have figured it out.
K 4x4 E V8 2 3/4 ton 34 Wideside - was throwing me off means nothing S St. Louis Z 1970 Last 5 are the SN. So I have a 1970 that came from the factory with a factory paint that was discontinued in 1969. |
Re: VIN Decoding
RA, Your SPID is not original. That is a really good reproduction. That is one of the best reproductions I have ever seen. Reproductions can be identified not just by how it looks but also by what's printed. And there are several things printed on your SPID that would be impossible for a St. louis 1970 SPID to have printed on it.

What are the give aways that the SPID is not a St. Louis Truck? Thanks! |
Re: VIN Decoding
Yes, You did correctly decode your VIN. Your truck is a 1970 GMC.
|
Re: VIN Decoding
Or should I say what makes the SPID impossible to have originated in St. Louis? PM me if that would be more appropriate.
Thank you! |

At this point I would be looking hard at the frame VIN(s) to see if they match the plate's. Color is probably the least of your concerns at this point. |

While the VIN number plate KE234-SZ60866 is correct for a 70, I suspect that the rivets are replacements as well simply due to the cratering that often happens when a rivet is drilled out and spins in the process. |
Re: VIN Decoding
Im looking @ a 72 blazer vin cke1825126117 and want to make sure is an original 2wd, does anybody knows how to decode it?
|
Re: VIN Decoding
CKE1825126117
C=Chevrolet K=4WD E=V-8 1=1/2Ton 8=Blazer 2=1972 5 is a S (check it again)=St. louis Assembly plant 126117=Unique serial number, Started with 100001 |
Re: VIN Decoding
Bruce has it right. Since Blazers were assembled in St Louis(S) or Flint(F) it looks like you have that one character wrong.
As far as an original 4x2 Blazer it isn't, at least that VIN isn't. Check for the partial frame VIN (2S126117) and the VIN plate (with rosette rivets), both should match up to the SPID on the glovebox door. |
