'67 C50: Anyone wanna help me give 'er a tune up?(lights, oils, etc)

This truck is now officially on the road, got it registered and insured. Here's a list of things I'd like to do immediately or soon.

--Transmission oil-I'm not even sure what it is, it's a huge 4-spd. I think someone said on this forum it would be "SM465" or something like that. What kind of oil would it take and how much?

--Any help on checking the rear end oil? Not very well educated on this.

--Headlamps seem not to work, but the running lights do. The fuse panel lists fuses for everything known to man, even stuff that this truck doesn't have(A/C, backup lamps, "park dome"??? ), but there doesn't appear to be a fuse for headlights, am I not seeing it?

This is another thing I don't understand: Why does my fuse panel have wires and plugs coming out of it's face, it looks factory....but I have never seen anything like it, and the wiring diagram shows nothing of the sort.....what are those wires for!?!?!?:m6:

Thank you all very much for any help or advice.

Tranny should take 80w90 and my glass fuse panel looks like that too. Some of the wires that protrude are even pigtailed with factory looking connectors

Here is some info for your drivetrain questions. http://chevyc60.com/index.htm
Now I know it says C60, but most interchanges with your 50. With that out of the way, first thing I would do is to pull all the fuses out of that panel. Keep track of where they go!! then get some contact cleaner and scrub all the fuse mounts. As far as the headlights, I would hit the switch with the contact cleaner to see if that helps and do the same to the headlight connections. A cheap multimeter is your friend too!!

I don't think the headlights are on a fuse. Usually that indicates either burned out bulbs or a bad dimmer switch. A dimmer switch is really cheap, probably less than ten dollars. Use a voltage tester at the plug on the headlight, if no power there then check the dimmer switch. One wire at the dimmer should be hot when the headlight switch is on. Oh, and check the ground wires... Each headlight plug should ground to the body, the body should ground to the battery.

I'm going to buy a dimmer switch tomorrow, mine ended up being snapped in half! We'll see if that works.
Thank you for the references, It's time to tune this baby up!
