Help with rebuilding a Tilt Column

I just bought a tilt column and had some questions. It is not refurbished, first of all. I was looking through the F.A.Q. section for help on going through the column. Any info/pics/help would be appreciated. I am not sure how to tell what is still good, and what needs to be refurbished. I know some guys on here make a habit out of rebuilding steering columns. I would like to do it myself, so I know how to do it. Again, any help would be GREEEAAAAAATTTT!!!! thanks in advance

Thanks Gary...

that is very helpful. Now, next question is, what, if anything, can I use from a non tilt, to rebuild the tilt? Anyone know?

It would be easiest to list the parts that you want to use from the non tilt and ask. Most of the "vital" parts (bowl, bearings, etc) do not swap over.

That is the thing though. I don't know by looking and playing with the tilt, what parts need to be replaced. I mean, should I just go through and replace everything? I didn't know if there was a "general rule"...

I replaced the switch and all three bearings.
If you are going through it I would recommend replacing the bearings. The switch you can replace at any time without too much trouble, but if it's questionable you may as well change it now. The other part that commonly breaks is the shifter pointer, but if it's not broke now no reason to change it.
Once you tear into it you will want to look everything over but most of the internal parts are pretty heavy. I have only restored one column so I am not going by a lot of experience here.
