Rear suspension is jarring when hitting bumps

1960 GMC 1000 series.

New POL rear coil spring, standard ride height

Shocks - replaced about 5 years ago, but they might not be correct

New POL adjustable trackbar (panhard bar).

Whenever I hit a bump (even small potholes) the rear suspension hits HARD and is quite brutal.

The only thing I can think of is that the shocks are underpowered or too short and not able to dampen the rebound from the new coil springs?

Anyone have an good recommendations for rear shocks for these trucks if we think that is the issue?

Thanks for any ideas.

Can you tell us the current model # of shock currently on it?

I’ll crawl under tomorrow and take a look.
Might have been NAPA brand, but I forget.

Sounds like a shock problem.

Pull the two lower shock bolts out then bounce the truck to see if the shocks are too stiff.

Or if the shocks are too short, and top out hard on rebound.

What he said, but try bounce on it before and after you unbolt the shocks to compare.

Re: Rear suspension is jarring when hitting bumps

So, it seems the rear shocks that were on there were too short.

60-62 GMC and Chevrolet's don't usually have rear shocks listed at all the usual places.

I found one posting that pointed towards some Race Car Dynamics Bilstein shocks that fit (Part 55-R148) .

The before and after is quite noticeable.

Thanks all for the responses and suggestions!
