i can drive my truck without this stuff, right?

today i was bored and i will be bored this weekend too(went to Burbon street in N.O. and a bar t see a band, got caught, sucks @ss) but i decided to shave some stuff and paint my truck within a couple weeks, i'm shaving side markers and emblems, but i took off my bumper, outer grill, and inner grill to fix them and paint them, this doesnt change the hood latch, so i can safely drive with this stuff off for a week or 2 right? i am pretty sure i can but i know i will prob get stories of hoods flying off

No, it'll hold, i'd just be worried bout getting a ticket for not having a front bumper

woodrow59 08-20-2002 07:18 PM

Hey Andy (may I call you that? ,,, besides it's shorter than Longhornmail ! LOL).
seanh71 is down here (LOL). Bumpers in the south are only required to push your "friends" f*** or d**** truck when they break down !!!!!! LOLOL

Longhorn Man 08-20-2002 07:20 PM

actually, that is a misconseption.
Bumpers are safety items, therefor govenment responsability. That makes it federal law, and a state can not take away from federal laws...just add to it.
Front bumpers are required on these trucks.

ebfabman 08-20-2002 07:33 PM

Guess that means every truck with a front roll pan is illegal...

Shane 08-20-2002 07:38 PM

not to throw fuel on the fire...but some new "base model" trucks don't come with rear bumpers. Not sure if this has anything to do with the front bumper law.......

Longhorn Man 08-20-2002 07:44 PM

True, front roll pans are for off road and show only.
Rear bumpers were optional on our trucks, and up to the early '90's (remember all the S-10's with no rear bumper). I think in '93...maybe '94, Big Brother said they need to have bumpers in back.

They don't say what the bumper has to look like, so I mounted my so called bumpers behind my rool pans. Steel I beams; stronger than most stock bumpers.

these trucks look mean with out all teh front parts

racedvl 08-20-2002 10:29 PM

No front bumper = no front turn signal lamps = possible ticket.

all 94-03 2nd gen s10s could be had without a rear bumper here in CA

Longhorn Man 08-21-2002 07:39 PM

Ok, cool, I looked into it, and your right, the rear bumper is not needed still.

racedvl 08-21-2002 09:37 PM

Well, by his avitar it looks as if he has a 71/72, soo.......... :D

PICKMUP 08-22-2002 03:29 AM

gotta have bumpers

I know...nobody cares...but Washington State Patrol says all vehicles have to have both bumpers...based on Fed law. Several of my customers with roll pans have gotten "repair & return" tickets.

Longhorn Man 08-22-2002 07:21 AM

LOL, I'd love to get pulled over for that one.
Life is grand when you can prove a cop wrong...I've done it a couple tiimes.

boilrman 08-22-2002 01:24 PM

I took body classes while in Indiana and had the rear bumper off my 66 impala and got pulled over and was told I had to put it back on. I told the teacher about this and he told me about when he had a 67 camaro that had no rear qtrs or trunk lid and he was pulled over.(all his lights were there and operational) He said the cop asked him where the rest of his car was. He told him he was restoring the car and the cop said he was going to have his car towed away, that he couldnt drive it on the highway. The teacher told the cop that his car was considered "under construction" and that as long as his lights were in proper order he was ok. The cop went to his books and looked it up and found out he was correct and had to let him go.

BTW, I never did put the bumper back on my car till I was ready.

Drive thru Arkansas on our interstates, and you'll want to have bumpers and curb feelers and all that good stuff! Lot's of folks drive thru the construction zones and just use their hearing, instead of their eyes. For instance, if you hear something to your right (i.e., someone made contact with your vehicle on the right side) you'll immediately see them move to their right to change course. Works the same when you back up...you keep backing until you "hear something"; then, you go forward. It's a good rule, unless you take pride in your vehicle or you ability to drive.
