700r4 Lockup light
 

So I put in a TCI lockup kit have it wired to lockup in 4th only ,red wire to brake switch and onto the switched fused panel. Was working great no problem,but the other night I dont think it was locking up ,would ride the brake and watch the tach and no difference in rpms. So I was wanting t run a light so when the lockup kicks in the light will come on or off. How do I accomplish this I have a green wire that is not in use but can be used for an optional on/off switch can the light be used instead of a switch ??

How is the CC being controlled now?

I once wired a bicolor LED and a couple 1000 ohm resistors into the converter control wire to give me a visual indicator if the transmission was getting the command to lock the converter (computer controlled)

It is through the vacum switch that TCI supplied

You could hook up a light like the Dorman SO13650. You'd connect the light's negative lead to that green unused wire from the transmission plug terminal B, and the light's positive lead to the red wire running from your brake switch to the transmission plug terminal A.

Appreciate the advice on the hookup, wiring is not my cup of tea I make it to complicated lol.

The light gets hooked up in parallel with the TCC solenoid so the light turns on when the solenoid is energized. It's convenient that the green wire is available. You could add the light and still connect the green wire to a switch for manual control, if wanted.

Can I run this without the vacum and just pug it off,I hook vacum up and it jumps in and out of lokup. I have tried several time sto adjust but nothing seems to work, only turn adjustment screw 1/8 turn at a time ?

One vacuum switch does not work well. I have tried it and had the same experience you're having. You could just replace the vacuum switch with a manual toggle switch. I would connect the toggle switch to the wires that were used for the vacuum switch. That way it will only lock up in 4th gear.

If you are not using a vacuum switch, what happens when you are passing or pulling on a steep grade and need the TCC to unlock? Will the tranny kick down into third then?

I'm trying to get my 200-4R TCC to work properly using the same connections shown in the schematic in post #4.

It forces you to handle the situation manually. You either have to shift into 3rd, or you have to flip a manual unlock switch on the dash.

I've been working on a better solution for TCC control for awhile. My current setup uses two vacuum switches and a delay relay to get rid of the on-off-on-off cycling. It works pretty well, but it still has the problem of keeping the TCC locked at too low of a speed, which lugs the engine. My current setup can be found on post #35 of the following thread.

I am working on an Arduino-based solution at the moment that monitors engine vacuum and vehicle speed.

In my opinion, the best commercially available solution is the speed-based system from B&M. It's pricey though.

I put the B&M kit on mine. I ran it through a brake switch for a truck with cruise control so that it would power the unit until you hit the brake then it would cut power and unlock the converter. You can adjust the speed that it locks up. When I get my truck back together I want to hook in a vacuum switch in series with the brake switch so when I pass it will unlock and not have to do it manually.
