1991 C1500. I'm giving thought to swapping from stock clutch fan to an aftermarket e fan. Could I tap into one of the stock coolant temp sensors wires to signal the fan controller, without affecting the temp gauge or the ecm?

I would think you would need the ecm to trigger it. Putting a double load onto the input of the ecm will probably alter things and effect the gauge. I am just guessing with theory, I never tried one or saw one that didn't have its own temp sensor for the fan.

Nope.

You will have to add a temperature on/off switch in a water passage. The existing is a sensor, not an on/off switch.

You need an aftermarket fan controller. Some of the ECMs have the ability to control fans by adding code, but if you're not familiar with burning chips then the aftermarket controller is the way to go.

I've got a cheap after market controller out there. But I did just put on a new fan clutch today so I'll see how it runs. I'm not impressed with the low cfm the after market efans produce though. So I'm on the fence. I don't think this radiator is wide enough to use a later year factory dual fan setup or I'd go that way. Just to be clear, I don't have an over heating issue. I'd just like to go efan to let it warm up faster and run quieter. The OE fan clutch may have been the original and it was locked up non stop creating a lot of noise and engine drag.
