Should I buy this big fella?

Kind f itching for a winter project and found this. Maybe shorten the frame and put a bed on it, make sure it runs and stops and sell it and maybe make a couple bucks. Anyone know how much of the frame needs to be cut out and where to get the flares for the rear wheel wells?

If you're only doing it to kill time and have a cool project then I was say go for it. If you're looking to make money off of it, I'm not sure you're looking at the right truck.
It needing a fuel pump to me is a red flag because the old mechanical fuel pumps don't go bad often. If those are 20" tires you could have a hard time finding one in usable shape.
One of the first things to check to see if it's a double/reinforced frame. Mine is reinforced and looks like it would be hell to try to shorten.
When it's said and done you would have a lot of money and time into a truck that isn't worth a whole lot and try to sell it to a very small margin of buyers.

Just go over it and freshen it up as it is and you can sell to someone who appreciates these trucks uncut up to put their bed of choice on there, just like when they were new.

Even though I'm the owner and builder of a medium duty pickup truck, I'd advocate to not shorten it if your intention is to flip it. There's a lot more to doing it right than meets the eye, you could soon wind up spending more than you'd be able to get back out of it.

Incidentally, I have found and am trying to get hold of one almost identical that belonged to my Grandpa, a 72 5500. I have a soft spot for this bodystyle left in original form, they're rugged and useful trucks still today.

Looks like a fair price to me 👍

Keep it the way it is, get it mechanically sound, find a flat bed to mount on that full length frame and sell it to someone who'll use it for hauling. It's still a nice clean straight truck, would make a great farm truck or for someone who has a small business.

Chances of you being able it flip it as one of those overgrown pickups is slim... I've been watching a couple on FB marketplace around here for a while and they haven't been selling.

Thanks everyone. I found a 64 shortbed that I bought instead. Maybe I should get the 50 to haul it around on. lol

Now THATS an idea! I've always envisioned going to a car show with a sweet old school medium duty car hauler with a nice hot rod on the back :metal:

This is exactly what I have in mind for my 69 C60. My wife's truck is a 72 and I'll be pulling it with mine to all the mud bogs. For some reason I imagine this glorious sight driving down the road... in my own head at least.

if that's all that truck is worth, man, my rust bucket oil eating '67 must be worth about $50 =/
