K30 Cummins Dually build
Figured I'd share my project... everybody loves project threads lol
Mainly posted over at Dieselplace because it originally had a 6.2 in it, but now that I have decided to go with a 6bt they kicked me out lol. Picked it a couple years ago and haven't made as much progress as I would have liked but the C10 and K20 took up some of my time (C10 is gone and the K20 is getting parted out cab is bad) So here is a few pics to start. This is how I picked it up, all torn apart but the frame was blasted and painted The cab had new rockers, cab corners and floors done, not perfect but good enough for a work truck. Originally I was going to put a dumping flatbed on it but money got tight and I had to sell it so now I am going with a mason dump body. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010074.jpg http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010077.jpg http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010073.jpg http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010076.jpg The 6.2/TH400/NP205 Combo that was out then back in and back out again. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010071.jpg Teaser pic of the 6bt/4RH/NP205 that went in. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...psf264e1cd.jpg Have more to post soon. Here is a few pics of my friends 71 K20 that is getting a 3-53 Silver T Detroit I will start a thread on that build too. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...ps41a07eae.jpg http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...ps95eb516f.jpg |
Re: K30 Cummins Dually build
Cool projects for sure! I like the 3-53's with a turbo. Good little engine for sure. I like the powertrain combo in your truck too. I'm sure you won't regret it either. Haha

It was rebuilt by Mopar (is that ok to say here lol) in 2007. More pics Had a Banks setup on the 6.2, I sold it to buy Cummins parts  http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...P1010002-1.jpg Painted the firewall and inside of cab, going to be Silver with a black dump http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010003.jpg http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...P1010091-1.jpg Back of cab with color on it, wasn't being to picky on dings and dents here with the dump body going on it, the one big dent is pretty much gone. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010094.jpg Inner fenderwells painted and test fit http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...P1010093-1.jpg Radiator support mock up, later on I cut the supports out to fit a 2nd gen Dodge intercooler. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010090.jpg This is the flatbed I was going to put on it, but I have since sold it. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...7/P1010080.jpg |

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build
Looks like a great start for sure! I really like the K30 Reg cab dually trucks. I tried to find one for a long while but just couldn't make it happen.
It looks like you have mixed 1st Gen and 2nd Gen pieces. Did you acquire them separately? Can't wait to see more. |
Re: K30 Cummins Dually build
I love the 3-53!!

can you elaborate on what the plan is to put a 205 on the back of this trans? it looks like a 32 spline with a figure 8 adapter. interested to see whats the plan for that. |
Re: K30 Cummins Dually build
the shifter and boot look like late model SM465 and they had 32 spline outputs... I'm just too lazy to go look at my first gen 465 and see if that's what it is.

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build
It is but how were they gonna put a figure 8 205 on it?

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build
That's awesome! Great video too. I can't wait till I get to this point in my project.
How much fan clearance do you have to the rad? Looks like the rear valve cover has lots of room. Your setup is almost the same as what mine will be. |

Clearance on the back is tight between firewall and trans adapter on the motor. |
Re: K30 Cummins Dually build
Looks and sounds great! What did you end up doing for the trans linkage from the chevy stuff to the dodge?

I took the spare tire bolt I had laying around and cut the head off, ran tap all the down, drilled a hole in the frame that lined up with the bracket on the 47rh. Used some nuts+washers to sandwich the linkage levers from the th400 and the linkage levers from the 47rh. Works good, needs a little adjusting then I will weld it up. |

Re: K30 Cummins Dually build
Also lucked out on the rear driveshaft, originally it had a 2 piece with a carrier bearing.
With the length of the 47rh the yoke on the transfer case moved back so far it was almost even with the back of the cab. So I hunted around and found a 2002 4x4 Ford Ranger with extra cab long bed and a 4.0 auto had just about the right length I needed. Have about 1-1/2 inches of travel on the slip yoke. Had to get conversion u-joints though. http://i1219.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9e8efb75.jpg |
Re: K30 Cummins Dually build
Good luck, don't turn up the IP much. Bye bye aluminum yoke ends.
