7gmc2 11-09-2004 08:56 PM

:gmc: man that thing is a beast! jim this is what i am talking about! i would like to have a nice ride truck, and a work horse. something i don't mind giving a job to and putting the hammer to it. that truck can take it and keep on going. like a good tractor! :D

JIMs70GMC 11-09-2004 09:03 PM

It is sitting there w/ a 427 in it, does not come with the truck though, had a 350 w/ a SM465 tranny. The guy told me it was a wrecker used at a local gas station until 1993. Yukon Jack has a buddy with a 1ton converted to 4wd, it's nice w/ a flat bed.

Just started on mine last week. Watch for updates regularly....

I've got a fabrication/erection business (no comments from the perverts, look it up, sickos) so I'm building it to use rather than the red diesel I use now. I need a big flatbed with racks and goosneck hitch. This truck will fill the bill.

I've already fixed/ changed the damaged grille, and used the torch to remove about 300 pounds of "character" off of the bed and underside.

:gmc: these are great! love them...keep them coming. i would like this to be the 1 thread that contain all the 1 tons we can find for future viewing. thanks. tx firefighter keep us posted!

YJ what size tires does your buddy have?

Yukon Jack 11-20-2004 04:23 PM

I think they are 235 85 16's.

Had to keep them pretty narrow for the rear axle.

Bought it around 1997 only to be used as a tow vehicle. Previous owner was the West Virginia dept. of Transportation. Was in a bad hail storm prior to me buying it. Didn't run, no brakes, bad clutch, bald tires, all glass was burned up from welding or torching too close. Interior was shot and masking tape under bondo rockers & floor sections. Busted up grill & bezels. Bed lights didn't work. Had good body mounts, pintle hitch, frame and brand new 2" dual exhaust  . It had 42k original miles, before I rebuilt the motor last year. Basically sat from 4/99 to 9/02 after I had surgeries on shoulder and back, after an accident. Only driven then from 9/02-11/02. I've done too many things to list, but it's been off the road the past 2 years. Will probably put back on in a couple of weeks. Body work and interior to be done after it warms up. Have the original picture, for sale ad someplace. The "new" bed and tailgate are the ones I bought here off of gn4u2c. Since the pics, the rear bumper & hitch sit properly after I altered the brackets. Wiring & lights are all done. Headers & new 2.5" exhaust exiting at rear tires. Installed a 2" suspension in the rear.

MylilBowTie 11-21-2004 04:07 AM

I think it looks pretty good without the rear fendersides

Mike76251 11-21-2004 06:27 AM

I agree...........it does look good without them!

That's all I don't like about duallys.....EXPENSIVE and often damaged fenders.

special-K 11-21-2004 07:27 PM

I have a picture,if someone can post it.for me.I can e-mail it,but not post it.I`m new to such technology.
