Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
My 70 Burb has a Goodwrench 350 in it with a later model Duraspark distributor. Any idea what plugs to run in it? The motor was purchased from a Chevy dealer around 1984. I get different listings for stock plugs for a 1970 350 and for an early to mid 80's 350.
The thread size is the same but I'm getting a choice of like 5 different plugs. Later today I'll post the choices if I can. Paul |
Re: Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
pull the plugs in it now and post the pics of them so we can see the heat range.
or if you are not running htis 1984 motor yet, put some in it, and same tune it, and check the heat range of the plug/coloring |

Re: Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
Unfortunately in a fit of stupidity, when I cleaned up and painted the motor, I took a ball peen hammer to the plug porcelien part so that they wouldn't be in the way when cleaning and painting!
The R44's came up on one of my searches so I'll start with them Paul Quote:

Re: Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
R44ts or R45ts. in AC brand. The extended tip plugs have great advantages over the recessed tip on o-head valve engines.

Re: Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
I also am looking for spark plug questions. I have a 72 blazer but it has a 1977 350 engine with a stock HEI distributor. My repair manual (1972) says buy AC R45ts with a .035" gap. When I looked on the internet, there was a mechanic saying use R44ts with .045" gap. So when I went to an AC Delco site, they recommend using an R44ts or R45ts with a .045" gap.
Any comments on which is better and if the gap should really be .045"? Thanks. |
Re: Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
The old points dist used the .035 gap. With HEI you want to increase it to .045. That will take advantage of the increased spark availability.

Re: Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
Thanks Wrenchbender, I thought that might be the case. I'm trying to keep up with the things that belong to the 1977 motor vs the 1972 Blazer. I'm glad to have the HEI but now I have to pull the plugs again and reset them. :(

Re: Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
Wow, the Hei in my truck calls for .060 gap. Ya'll need some powa!

Re: Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
The early Chevy HEI models specified .060 gap. We had problems with damp weather starting & they changed it to .045.

Re: Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
IIRC, the .060 0n the gap also caused problems with burn through On the rotor....(early days....no start). On the gap, I agree .035 for points... . .045 on HEI;) Longhorn:chevy::smoke:

Re: Goodwrench 350 spark plugs
