br3w City; If I have my way she'll have an 9' crysteel dump body upfit on to it. You know with drop down sides. Deliver you some dirt man. Cream color rims, mirrors and grill. That what I'm talking about. bushy

If the emblem on the side says c80, it probably has the 409 in it...

Re: 60-66 Big Red Heavy Chevy C60

Pretty sure it says c60. What motor would it have then. bushy

Re: 60-66 Big Red Heavy Chevy C60

I think the c60's would have been the 6, or the 283/327...

Re: 60-66 Big Red Heavy Chevy C60

a 6 with that much weight behind it would be anemic.
that thing needs a diesel or big block imo.

My '63 C60 has the 292 with a 5 speed and a 2 speed rear and it does pretty darn good. I've rolled down the road at over 20,000lbs with it. It doesn't get up to speed real fast but it does do it.

Re: 60-66 Big Red Heavy Chevy C60

I've not had any trouble getting parts for mine. Needed a water pump a few years ago....no problem. The 292 was in production up thru 1980 I believe. Some things are interchangeable between the 292's and the 250's and 230's, like the later model HEI distributors.

j.Kirn; Nice dump truck! I would think that I could get a starter through napa don't you think? The tires are my bigest concern. The tires are dry rotted. Rims are bud Rh-5 Split rims the so called widow makers. What do you do there, that isn't costly.

Re: 60-66 Big Red Heavy Chevy C60

Captainfab: Thanks for the feed back. Nice workmanship on the booster bracket. What's the idea? It allow you to use a newer year booster on an older truck. bushy

Re: 60-66 Big Red Heavy Chevy C60

you can get the starter at napa no problem easy part

Captainfab 02-02-2010 02:12 AM

Re: 60-66 Big Red Heavy Chevy C60

That is correct....and it is 100% bolt on except for modifying the booster pushrod.

Most big-rig tire shops still do split rims if they have a cage. BUT, only if they're not rusty to the point of not being safe (flaking rust.)

j.kirn; meant to comment on your wheels. They look good on that truck. Have not cared for the appearance of them most generally. Do you have a pic of front of truck. bushy

J.kirn; Nice smile on the c60. Are there many people using trucks of that age around. I see a big tandem that is between 60-66, that delivers stone. Actually, I see one that is baby blue another one that is black. Both are very sharp. bushy

Re: 60-66 Big Red Heavy Chevy C60

There are a lot of these trucks still in use some are in good shape while others are in poor condition. i also have a 1966 c-60 and several parts from other trucks

Re: 60-66 Big Red Heavy Chevy C60

The truck in your pics looks like it might be rusted through above windshield because of cab lights are you gonna buy this truck?
