Exhaust with stock manifolds
 

So been a long time since I have posted on here. But finally getting back on a new project a 68 C-10 long bed. I am going to be changing out the motor in the future and would like to refresh the exhaust system but plan on keeping the stock ram horns. Any suggestions on best bolt weld in kits out there that are budget friendly. Build thread coming once I get some pics taken.

My opinion is to just take it to a good muffler shop and have them do all the work. I just did that, I have stock ram horn manifolds and had them build a 2 1/2" dual system with dyno-max mufflers, H-pipe and exhaust exiting under the rear bumper with chrome tips. $550

My local shop, only one quoted $800 + without any additional components like H or X pies. I decided that the single system with original Y pipe was adequate for my needs so I’m keeping it simple and inexpensive.

Just had mine done. I brought in the mufflers. Dual 2.5” manifold back w/ H pipe & chrome tips. Cost was $500 + the mufflers I had.

This will be your best route imo.

You can buy a "budget friendly" dual system from LMC Trucks and a few others, maybe Summit or Jegs. Loads of exhaust system threads here over the years.
I believe the LMC kit is made by Hearthrob, has mandrel bends and is $250 to 350 or so. If you want a more custom fit you will need to visit a muffler shop and pay up.

$260, manifold back, 2.25", mendrel bent. Mufflers not included.

I think I have the same system, but in header back. Pretty decent, it seems like quite a deal. Only issue I had was the track bar hit the pipes on the pass side, so the exits are no longer even.

If I had any idea going back two years or so, when a muffler shop gave me a quote for 900.00 to install stainless 2 1/2 inch and X pipe with everything to hang, all welded together, just don't remember if that included the mufflers, I would of said do it.
With that being said and not to bad mouth the product, but the sales person behind the phone who confirmed many times, yes it's the complete system for stock exhaust manifolds, stock exhaust manifolds which I was very specific about, and to go out back. The system was on sale at the time for 650.00. Turns out Joe was not listening to me about the stock exhaust manifolds but he was kind enough to sell me the required extensions for another 245.00, and now there's my new total 895.00, I did tell Joe thanks that I find it from some where else. I guess what I'm trying to say is do your research. The quotes mention don't sound bad just curious, are the materials welded and or stainless. I still have yet to install mine though, but hopefully this week or next finally.

Thank you everyone for the input so far, definitely doing some searching around as I have some time likely wont change out until the new motor goes in just seeing whats thoughts and experiences are. I did see the summit kit when looking not too bad of a price. But still have to buy mufflers. Good exhaust shops are getting harder to find anymore.

I failed to mention, I do not weld, still on the bucket list, the shop I went to still works with hot rods and does good work as I was told, but at the time it matter with the sales price for the exhaust system I got, I didn't mind clamping all together myself. Might help to keep in mind, are your exhaust manifolds ram as where they come straight down or do they curve back. My son soon to be 16 also has a 67 like mine, he likes the hobie, he's good help and keeps me on my toes, lol. By the way, how did the 65 truck turn out? O-well, back to work, I hear my kids back with the dirt bike. Man I'd like to have his energy, lol.

Thanks for the input, still have the 65 going on 21 years of owning, My son never took interest, its on the list which once i get more space and less hobbies will get it worked on again lol.

On my truck, I went with Summit headers and the same Hooker pipe kit for headers. These were the suggested mufflers.

About $92 for the pair. Figure $350 for the kit + shipping. You can shop around for mufflers, Summit lists 160 mufflers that should fit.

I prefer a pipe kit without mufflers, so you can get the sound you want.
