Re: shine some headers up?

i'd first try something mild like"soft scrub bathroom cleaner" the big thing cleaning headers is to get all residue off or else it will burn on when you fire the engine

Re: shine some headers up?

I would call Jethot and ask them. The guy that runs Airborne Coatings started Jethot. I have had both. I melted a mechanix glove on mine and I called AC's to see how to clean it. I was surprised but it worked. I will say one thing. It is easier to do them off of the motor. Call Jethot.

Re: shine some headers up?

The headers I got from Jethot were from a cancelled order and when they sent them anyway, I seen that they were used headers that had been redone. They rusted through in about a year. I then ordered a new set of headers and sent them to Airborne Coatings in Okla. They have been great. probably going on 5 or 6 years now and then I don't drive this thing much. The coating from AB and Jethot are the same just done by different guys.

The funny thing. is when I got the headers from JH I called and complained. They (billing) didn't even know that they had been sent. If I would have kept my mouth shut they wouldn't have cost me a penny. :)

I sold the Jethots to someone. The ones I have now from Airborne are not bad at all. This is the best pic I have of mine now.

I used a fine steel wool to rub mine out, when I did the last engine change out.

Re: shine some headers up?

Clean em the best you can and then try the paint used for BBQ grills. It was the best I found. Once your headers get rusty I don't think you can ever get them clean enough for paint to stay. I would be very careful about sandblasting also. Headers will get very thin in places from rusting from the inside.
