LSx A/C Compressor in the Stock Location

Hello to all. Like the thread title says. Using Stock LSx components, and the stock 1973-1987 C10 Frame and motor mounts, you can run your LSx, stock A/C Compressor, with the stock A/C backet in the stock location.

Thanks for posting, trying to get mine set now. Don't have the 73-87 2wd engine stands, waiting on a 4x4 set ftom a 76, that are built slightly different but I hope puts the mounts in the same position. Post a photo if you can.

I can't help but for those that can what ls motor are you referring to? Is it a truck motor like a 5.3 or a 5.7 from a car? I hear reference to the lsX but thought that was an aftermarket block or just a generic term. A little info on year and motor will help.

Sorry for the delay. For some reason it’s very hard for me to post pics. I hope this works.

You can use any adapter plates along with the stock a/c compressor and the stock a/c bracket. The a/c bracket will need to modified, cut depending on how close it is to the motor mounts.

For those who don’t know, all LS engines are basically the same even thought some may have different displacements. All the parts are interchangeable. I use the term “LSX” to cover car and truck engines, gen 3 and gen 4. This covers LS engines from 1997 corvette and 1999 GM trucks to 2014 GM cars and trucks. I hope I covered everything

Most engine mount adapter plates will require modification of either the adapter plate or a/c bracket. Unless you use the Hooker Blackheart system which approaches engine mounting in a reverse fashion. Hooker retains the LS engine mount (F body type) and handles the offset via a new set of perches or stands. I like the fact that it keeps the engine low and thus proper driveline angles easier to achieve.

Very nice. I was hoping to keep it down there. Now the question is can the stock compressor be used with an aftermarket system such as vintage air?

Thanks for getting the photos up, I found the correct mounts, like you posted. Looks like you have the Speed engineering headers also, I did a test fit they seem to fit very good.

The factory F-body bracket on my LS1 would not fit in the frame
I'm using a Sanden compressor with Alan Grove bracket
Plenty of clearance at the frame

The tejas steelworks motor mount brackets allow you to use the factory a/c placement.

There’s plenty of ways to skin a cat. On my truck, LSx builds, I try to use stock parts. There’s no need to buy aftermarket parts when you can spend time and ingenuity to make the swaps work. Most of the us have these parts lying around in our garage. I can go to any parts store and say “ lemme get a compressor for a 2001 Chevy Tahoe”. Who has an extra sanden compressor lying around.
