Cleaning with CLR
 

Starting to winterize around here and thinking about stuffing the 1942 dump in the garage. Before I blow out the water lines I want to powerwash the truck. So, I'm thinking about using that CLR stuff on her first since shes wearing her original paint,then powerwash. Whats the proper procedure to using this stuff?

It doesn't look like you've got an awful lot of surface rust on that truck. But here's a couple threads on the CLR subject....
Just use some luke warm water in a bucket, pour some CLR in like its time to mop the floor (meaning not a whole lot is needed) then use a green scotch brite pad and start scrubbing.

I used clr om my sons 41 truck,we poured it on and scrubbed with a tire brush then hosed it off.worked great

Well my results were not as good as others. The trucks paint looks better in pics than in person as alot of areas have a cracked look to them. The CLR did little to help the ol' man out. At least he's in the garage and i can do some work on him. I managed to put 9 miles of driving on the back streets with a giant grin on saturday with it, and it had a very comfortable ride for a 1 1/2 ton. Definately will be registering him in the spring!

I use CLR to prep parts for paint. I don't think I'd use as a general wash agent since I'm afraid it would get in areas that wouldn't get flushed out and accelerate rusting that's already there.

For instance, I soaked this transfer case/ transmission adapter overnight to prepare it for a coat of POR-15. Works great when I use it like that.

The CLR not only works on the surface rust but will help in cleaning off the calcium or lime skuz if the truck has been hit with sprinkler water or otherwise had a buildup. My 1-1/2 ton got hit with irrigation water out of the wheel line all summer and it will need a real scrubbing if and when I ever start on it.

I had really good luck with CLR and a Scotchbrite pad. It dull the paint to a matt finish,but I am fine with that.

Thats what I hoped for mine to look like, but did'nt happen as pics shown. Nice truck and welcome to the forums.

Ya know what will make that paint shine ? I have heard that automatic tranny fluid wiped on the paint makes it shine like crazy
