How many use Spray-On Detailer's?

We washed up the fleet this weekend and this was the first time I used a spray on wax/detailer following the wash. It seemed to provide a slicker finish to the paint once it was wiped down.

So what are your experiences?

What products do you use?

I love the quick detailer. I get my best results after I wax it. Then use it between wax. I can put a fresh shine on my blazer including the top in about 5-10 min. No haze either. I love it. I use Meguires. I'm sure there may be better stuff out there. It works well for me though.

Do you apply your spray while the vehicle is still wet? Use a chami to wipe it off?

I was amazed how much of a difference it actually made by using a spray-on detailer. I definitely added a new process to my cleaning regiment... :D

I use it on dry. I think wet works also. I just never have tried it. As far as a chamois goes. I don't really like them. I feel like they remove wax. I use very high quality towels. I buy towels to match color of vehicle. I never use fabric softener on towels when I wash them as that leaves a residue. Another trick for removing wax. I never swirl wipe. I straight line wipe. Swirl wiping shows up in the sunlight easily. Straight line wiping keeps the illusion of marks down when the sun hits it. Hope that makes since to you.

I meant to ask if you have tried a clay bar. They are magic. Get one, use it. Your truck will love you for it. And don't use one of those soft squeegees after you wash. they will leave scratches eventually.

Re: How many use Spray-On Detailer's?

Charlie, great posts above. I have yet to try the clay bar process, but when I get a spare moment around the house I am planning on using one on the '69. I used the chamois on my '08 but sprayed the detailer on the truck before I wiped it down with the chamois. After the chamois removed the majority of the water/detailer I came back with an extra soft cloth I had to finish wiping the body down to a clean luster.

One thing I did notice when using a chamois and detailer together was that I didn't end up with "water streaks" once I wiped off a panel. It seemed to use the water to help spread the detailer while pulling more water off the truck as well. Does that make sense?

Above you mentioned that you purcahsed high quality towels, are you referring to a microfiber towel? Mothers, Meguiar's...?

A good detailer is great between waxing. I use a lot of Meguires products and like them all. I use to detail for a living and i learned to stay with one line of products.

Re: How many use Spray-On Detailer's?

I use cotton towels. That's why I purchase in my case black, because of the lint. I will use my California duster to remove that.
I'll try the wet, chamois, detailer combo.:metal:

I've had a California duster in storage for about 3-4 years now, so I guess I need to finally break the packaging and start using it. :D

It's true what they say. The dirtier it gets, the better it works.
And yea, I think your new baby deserves the best care possible.
Just for instance, the paint on my truck is 25 yo. It has been washed a minimum of times. Actually it goes years without water hitting it. Every weekend when I showed it. I wax it. Then I get to show and use detailer on it. I get home and detailer once more, cover it. Next weekend, I would pull cover, california duster it. Wax it, go to show. Repeat process. The longest I've gone without getting it wet, other than sitting in the garage; I went around 3.5-4 years before I had to strip it and start process over. Right now, I'm thinking of a wet sanding and buff. The paint is thin in places though.
I clay bar about 2-3 times a year. That's a huge step in protection. If you think your paint is free of debris. Wash, wax, then run the back of your hand over it. Feels smooth right? Now, clay bar it and feel the difference. It will be noticeable. Then wax it.
Since I'm rambling. One more wax trick. I have only done this a few times myself. After you wax. Rinse with really cold water, then dry as usual. It's supposed to give the wax a harder setup. I got that tip from Lowrider Mag. They would actually put ice in a bucket of water to pour over a fresh wax job. Those guys really know how to treat there High dollar paint jobs. That's where I learned to remove wax in a straight line also.:metal:

I am a huge fan of eagle one products this wax below works awesome..

This wipe and shine I use all the time as I also do not wash my truck as it sits in a garage with a cover on. When it is dusty from sitting I use this product and it comes out terrific..

I've always used Meguires products. I know theirs equal, maybe even better products. I should try the Eagle stuff. I've noticed a few people using it.

A clay bar is the best way to go...it will make old paint look new. Use a spray-on detailer like Meguiars to lubricate it as you rub it on the paint.

Once again detailing is a subject that brings everyone out of the woodwork. I was introduced to a spray detail item many years ago, from Mother's and since then I have tried many dofferent ones with my final choice being a product from Wizard's products. laugh if you want, but their stuff walked all over Mequires at their little detail seminar back during one of the hot Rod Power Tours and I carry the stuff in ALL of my vehicle. It is for the really bad bugs and of course the dang birds.

I know some of you have seen my black truck and the finish that I have. It is hard to keep black clean--this stuff makes that a lot simpler than most think.

I love Eagle one wax as you dry too, works great! Is it me or does that stuff smell like bubblegum? I want an air freshener that smells just like it!

Re: How many use Spray-On Detailer's?

I know of a couple stores in my area, that sells the product, but I found that ordering from the internet was the best way for me. I have it in my basement and always ready for use. I would check through Wizards, to see if they list any suppliers in your area.

Re: How many use Spray-On Detailer's?

This past weekend I was able to use a detail sprayer on my '69 and it helped to keep the shine there. The truck truly needs to be waxed, but the spray on detailer will definitely help until I have the time to get it waxed.

I'm sold!

Re: How many use Spray-On Detailer's?

A heads up. Never store your products outside in and unheated garage during the winter. Freezing will destroy most detailing products.

I use California Customs M-Ron for waxing and will follow up with Meguires #34 in between waxes. No silicone in either. I also use a chamois but will not use it if it is ever dropped on the ground. I have not dropped very many. Good way to ruin a good paint job.

Excellent points Mudder!

While we're on the subject do you prefer to use a chamois or a microfiber towl?
