1951 GMC heater

I just bought a 51 GMC 5 window out of an old junkyard and the heater is different from the other trucks I have had. I have a 52 GMC and the heater looks like all the other ones. Just curious about it.

That is a heater from a earlier truck or car, like pre 1947

That would make sense, this is the second 51 I have had and never messed with anything older. Thanks

Exactly where is the heater located? Typically passenger side hanging straight down? Seen that in a late 30's early 40's ranch truck we had(pre WW2).

Yes it's on the passenger side. The picture is sideways.

It looks like this 41 Chevy Special Deluxe heater and that is the year era that I think it was for. Either and older heater off the dealer's parts room shelf that they could sell to the buyer of the new truck for a lower price or salvaged out of an older truck and put in the 51.

Great looking Decco heater even if it isn't the correct one for the truck if it heats the truck and defrosts the windshield and doesn't leak life is good.

It is a cool looking piece. Depending on what I do with the truck I might clean it up and hang onto it.

I really do like the looks of it and if it will keep the cab warm and comfy that is all you need.

Sometimes though rebuilding an old heater costs way more than buying a Vintage air heat only unit that mounts up in the samespot, puts out great heat and can defros/defog the windshield. Heater cores for those older units can go 250/300 or more quite often if they are the round cores. I figured out one day that to fully restore and upgrade a "standard recirculating" 47/53 heater was going to run right at 400 before all was said and done if you bought a new round core and a new heater motor and the proper paint to paint it.
