Engine wiring question Purple and green
3 Attachment(s)
I pulled out my 350 motor and we built a 383 stroker. On my old started, there were 2 wires that ran down to it. I believe purple and green??? My new starter is a high torque one. It only has 1 position for a wire. So.............If i'm correct, one of those wires is the start wire that will go to the starter and the other wire is a run wire that needs keyed 12V?
let me know. Thanks |
Re: Engine wiring question Purple and green
On my setup, only 1 wire from the harness is used with hei. The yellow wire is taped back and covered up. Purple to the solenoid, and starter connection, and that's it.

Ok, when I land the motor I will try that. If I have running issues, then I guess I will need to dig out that wire and find somewhere to put it?

Re: Engine wiring question Purple and green
The yellow wire provides power to the coil through the solenoid when cranking the engine to start it. If you tie it off, you may have a lot of cranking since you won't be powering the coil. You'd have to get it spinning and let the ignition catch when you let go of the key. I get around this by using a remote solenoid from a competing automotive manufacturer to provide power while cranking.
