Not much to report on the truck at the moment. Still waiting on some parts for the printer to continue prototyping. They should be shipping today/tomorrow.

Hey all,
Been a while since I've updated. I haven't done a ton on the truck as I've been working on developing my new business. But I did manage to swap in a 700R4 over this past week just to make the highway manners better. Still planning on a LT/8l90 swap down the road, but for now, this makes it nicer. The next think I'm working on for it really is more for research purposes than the truck itself, but I'm working to 3D print a new thermostat housing to test how my carbon/nylon material holds up. On my 08' LR3 much of the cooling system is Nylon, so I think it'll be fine, and would be fun to be able to print custom reservoir tanks, housings, etc. I know in the LS swap area some people are having to get LS>SBC adapters and use old thermostat housings to get the orientation they want for hoses, so being able to just print something would be fun. Here is the design I have come up with: https://i.imgur.com/kBx7J4hl.png I printed the base to test and ensure it bolts down and properly fits the gasket pattern. Once I confirm that I'll print the whole thing and then install it and test it. This material is good to 150*C regular use, and 180*C peaks, so I think that's well within the 180-230*F that the engine should see. I like your style. Not to be negative, but the pressure rating at 200*f may be lower than a hot cooling system- so maybe try running distilled water when testing to reduce cleanup in your garage. You may also run into cracking issues with the hose cantilevering on the nipple and vibrating.
Maybe a suggestion would be bonding a thin metal sleeve to strengthen the nipple side. |

Made a little progress on the thermo housing.
Again, this is to mainly test the material in the heat, stress, and pressure. While there isn't a lot of point in just reprinting a readily available housing I've read of a few types of swaps or configurations where finding the right hose can be a pain in the ass, so the ability to make a custom housing could come in handy. I ordered a gasket to verify dimensions. I also printed the hose-end to verify fitment with my upper radiator hose. All good. Well, unfortunately, I broke the glass removing the print, but a replacement printer is on the way anyways due to some issues they've since resolved, so I might have to wait a week before doing any more printing.
The good news is the test print finished and looks good enough to install this coming week. There are some rough spots where supports were I may sand down, but overall it looks good and is strong. I'll thread the top for a 3/8NPT plug (or future temp sensor for electric fans). Been awhile! Sold my house a month back, and am living with the GF. We are currently building a 2020 Sprinter, so that's taking a lot of my spare time. I did get a little time with the truck recently though. A few developments.
Landed on the color: Going to go with GMC's Pacific Blue Metallic. I've seen it a few times and love it. The color precipitated a name change. It was Ghost, because I was going to do it in white/offwhite. The color made me lean towards Poseidon for a name. The GF suggested "Ghost of Poseidon," and that's where I landed. Going to do a darker build, lots of black accents, and limited brightwork. I tore out the wiring yesterday because it needs a full rewire. Going with the American Autowire Hwy 22 kit. The previous owner did some creative stuff for sure: https://i.imgur.com/4Nv997Ml.jpg Since I took the gauges out I figured I'd replace them with new ones. To go along with the theme I'm choosing black gauges, with the tach being red. I'm incorporating my company logo into the tach and will incorporate the Ghost of Poseidon Badge into the speed, once it's done. What I have now is a mockup, but it's close. Instead of using the stock bezel I wanted to go with something a little different. Ring bro's makes a nice bezel out of aluminum, but it's $500. There is a carbon one you can but into for $260+, but . . . I really felt something unique calling. I spent a few hours today in Fusion to recreate the bezel. I still need to model in the mounting holes. Very cool! Will you be highlighting the trident on the faceplate? Maybe by doing like a gloss black against the satin. Really like the creativity on this build.

Mounting holes lined up great, however I totally forgot the reliefs from the dash where the wiper and headlight switches mount. So I had to mold them in. Makes the printer a little harder as now I'll need supports, and that will ugly the backside a bit, but shouldn't be terrible. Here is a screengrab of the backside with the reliefs.
