72 GMC Duramax
1 Attachment(s)
I was looking around to see if I could find anyone who has put a duramax in there old GM truck. I like the idea of a diesel truck, and wanted to know how much work it is to make the swap. I've been told that it will cost around 10K.

Re: 72 GMC Duramax
I'm thinking that Duramax will be more than 10 grand alone! Is that the banks twin turbo supercharged marine crate motor? I like!;)

Re: 72 GMC Duramax
It sure is. I was thinking about getting a donor truck from a scrap yard. People say I can pick one up for around 5,000 bucks

Re: 72 GMC Duramax
I haven't done one but have been thinking real hard on a dmax car of some sort. I have heard that if you look in the right places, engines with trannys and pcm's, can be picked up for as little as $2500. Honestly I haven't been looking, because I need to finish some other projects. There is a member on this site whom is doing a 83 or 84 dmax chevy, and it is unbelievably nice! I'll see if I can fin it for you.

Re: 72 GMC Duramax
Ok, I was wrong. It is a 1982. Go check it out. Probably one of the nicest trucks on the board being assembled.

Re: 72 GMC Duramax
wow.....what's the rest of the drivetrain that'll support all that torque? there's some serious talent on this board.

Re: 72 GMC Duramax
I'm pretty sure he is using an allison transmission but I'm not for sure on the axles.

Re: 72 GMC Duramax
If I can get all the stuff together I want to put an allison behind the muramax, not sure on the t-case, with a dodge dana 80 rear with disc brakes and a dana 60 front. At least thats what I'm thinking at this point.

Re: 72 GMC Duramax
There is a link to my build in my signature. It's an '82.
http://www.lonniesperformance.com/82chevyduramax.htm You will sink an easy $6-8K in the engine/trans. If you want to build it up, add another $4-6K without even getting inside the engine. Inside the engine you can sink an easy $10K You can do the Dodge axles & transfer case with some modification. or the Factory Dmax transfer case with a late 70's Ford front axle. Either way, plan on lots of work. |
Re: 72 GMC Duramax
Thanks for the info. Maybe it should be a project for down the road.

Re: 72 GMC Duramax
This past weekend I saw a LBZ duramax in a 66 chevy II Nova wagon with parallel turbos. It was pretty sweet!
