My Truck is Dwarfed!

I bought my 1978 C20 new. I never thought of it as a small truck. Times have changed! It definitely looks like a mid size in this lineup.

Compare the height, width, and length measurements, and it is a mid-size truck. The biggest difference is the new trucks are significantly taller, which is completely pointless.

Many conversations were had at the job site over the hood or bed of a square body. You can't do that with the new trucks because they are too tall.

My 04 Grand Cherokee looks downright tiny next to the new trucks.

Along with having a taller stock ride height, I notice a lot of the new truck bodies are built/styled "fatter" too...

They say squares are wind damns/bricks... yeah right. You see how massive the front ends are on pickups now?

Re: My Truck is Dwarfed!

A friend lucked into a new Ford Maverick. We both commented that this 'compact' truck was about the same outside size as my 75 C10. Prime difference is the Maverick is in the now normal sedan replacement layout with a 4 passenger cabin and short bed. It came with a tow package. The person who originally ordered it had their financing fail and my friend was the next person through the dealer door that asked about a Maverick.

I still get looks of envy at the building supply stores when I slide 4x8 sheets into my LWB and close the tailgate and then toss more stuff on top of the sheets.

I have not liked the 'eat everything on the road' look ever since it became a thing. At age 66 I figure it possible that my C20 will last long enough that I may never have to buy one.

I am with you. My C10 rcsb is right sized for life.

While my 18 Silverado was nice. It was horrifically big. It made me feel like a child next to my daddy's pickup.

On my C10 which is lowered in the rear now 2". I can sit comfortably on the tailgate, and load stuff easily. Even when it was stock height it was easy. On my 18 the bed was atleast 8 inches higher, and I did a 2.5/4" drop. Plus I have nearly the same ground clearance for going down dirt roads to go fishing.

Parked next to this monster today. And that’s my 4x4!

I can pretty much guarantee that the drag coefficient of your square is better than that white monstrosity. In other words, put the same drivetrain and axle ratios in each, and your square will get better fuel economy.

Haha. You actually couldn’t be more right! That white truck is my
Company’s work/tow truck and gets 13 mpg on the highway (the way I drive). My suburban gets 14 mpg on the highway and I don’t drive it any different. Haha

Ya, like with any vehicle it is all about your right foot. I have a '21 Denali monster with a 6.2 and am averaging about 19 mpg. My business partner has a similar AT4 with a 5.3 and is getting around 15mpg. We got them at the same time. His "brake pad life reading" is down to 80% and mine is at 93%.
My wife grew up driving 70's Cadillac's and she won't drive this truck.

I joke that my fullsize c10 looks like an S10 next to some of the new trucks in the parking lot at work. Glad I don't have to wax them, I have barely enough patience to wax the c10.

X2! '78 was a great year, IMO, the height of the design cycle for Chevy trucks. Remember them when they were brand new, but was a freshman in high school at the time, with no license or job.
