Worlds Slowest Dropmember Build
Here's my story..
About a year ago I bought pretty much the full kit from Nathan: * Front Dropmember * Control Arms * Trailing Arms & Crossmember * Rear Notch (bolt-in) and Bridge * Hood Hinges * ..and all the extra stuff (Rack & Pinion, Bags, etc.) I blasted everything and decided to just use Zero-Rust paint on everything looks like crap btw), I got it all put together.... and then I got a new job that pretty much eliminated ALL spare time. http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/DSC_0026.jpg http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/DSC_0024.jpg |
Re: Worlds Slowest Dropmember Build
About a month ago I bought a truck that I found in the classifieds on this site.
Drove from Calgary AB to South Hadley MA to pick it up. Drove straight there and back, stopped only for fuel and to load up the truck... 100+ hrs of constant driving. Won't be doing it again. The truck had pretty much all the same PB stuff except it was the older version of the DM and the notch was lower. http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/DSCN1562.jpg http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/DSCN1590.jpg |
Re: Worlds Slowest Dropmember Build
I wanted all my original PB stuff on the truck because I needed the bigger notch and thought I might as well also use the newer DM.
So.. Full dismantled both frames. Reassembled my original frame with all of the PB stuff from the truck I bought.. (actually I mixed and matched a little bit because the trailing arms from the truck had some pretty trick little e-brake cable stops and the cab was still mounted and I didn't feel like taking the trailing-arm xmember off, and unbolting the diff..) http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/IMG_3456.jpg I don't really have a specific picture of the chassis but you can see it on the right in this picture: http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/DSCN1773.jpg I need to roll it out into the sun and take some better pictures of it... |
Re: Worlds Slowest Dropmember Build
Last week I blasted all my originally purchased PB stuff and I just got it all back from the powdercoaters on Friday.
I did everything in a semi-gloss black except the control arms.. I did them in a Silver to match the trailing arms that I kept from the truck. Oh.. did I mention that I also bought Nate's Bolt on Body Drop... well.. I did .. I bought Nate's Body Drop. Yesterday I pulled the rad support mounts and factory crossmember (I forgot how much I love removing factory rivets) and I bolted up the DM (along with the truss supports that Nathan sent along with the body drop) and I installed the front portion of the body drop. While we're on the subject of Nathan... just so you all know.. he sent me 2 sets of the truss support system knowing that I was purchasing this other DM truck.. Obviously didn't have to do that and when your running a small business, every penny really counts. So.. EVERYONE, go buy something additional from that you don't already have (I'm sure there's gotta be something) to help him grow this business). Here are the pictures of yesterday. http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/DSCN1766.jpg http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/DSCN1777.jpg http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/DSCN1781.jpg http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...d/DSCN1783.jpg |

Re: Worlds Slowest Dropmember Build
You have a sweet truck!
It belonged to a member here. Glad to see that someone is going to finish it. I think I have the world's slowest Dropmember build. I haven't even started a thread yet! Posted via Mobile Device |

I emailed and talked to him 1,000 times over the last couple of months. After we loaded up the truck he invited my Dad and Son and I into his home to relax a bit before we headed back out on the road. He and his family were really great. Considering the fact that it was 2am on a Monday.. it was pretty nice of him to even let us load up right when we got there. |

Re: Worlds Slowest Dropmember Build

looks like its gonna be a sick truck..so is the blue truck with the flames going to be the body your using...? |
Re: Worlds Slowest Dropmember Build
Looking good Kevin...
If you are looking to get rid of some of the parts, I would be interested in the PB trailing arms, as I have a ART setup, and it will be kind of useless for what Im doing. Darren |

Re: Worlds Slowest Dropmember Build
Thanks for the comments guys.
Also... I got a phone call today from Perry @ PTS telling that my wheels are ready to ship today... I decided to do a little photoshop work to get myself psyched up for them. 20x8.5 front by 22x10 rear same offset as old aux... will run the same size rubber as old aux http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...escrosstop.jpg |
Re: Worlds Slowest Dropmember Build
Sweeeet!!!

Re: Worlds Slowest Dropmember Build
Here are some pics of the wheels.
I "borrowed" them from the Scott's Burb build and am mildly ashamed to say I am copying them.. Straight up.. I love the wheels.. http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC09327.jpg http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_0436.jpg http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/DSC09325.jpg They are brushed and cleared. I am contemplating do my bumpers and grill and pretty much everything that is shiny in the same brushed cleared finish.. We'll see how long I stick with that plan once I get some quotes from the chrome/brushed nickel shop.. |
