Pretty decent weekend here boys!

Got home from a road trip (work - ugh!) and my new bell housing was here. Stuffed that with the Boy's 11" Mcleod and 163t flywheel and FINALLY drilled the frame and bolted in that cross member I made a year ago. Got the exhaust within inches of done too. I came up just short on the bends, so I ordered another 180 degree bend but in stainless. I'll lop that in half to complete the exhaust saga with some nice, square-cut stainless tips right where they oughtta be! U-bolts are still way long in the photo. Once I'm happy with blocks I'll cut them down to size.

I dropped the cab back on in prep for my hydraulic clutch setup. I ordered a Willwood master to mount on the firewall and will make some mods at the clutch pedal lever for a push rod. Going with the Novak slave kit. I'll then be hanging the doors back on to make sure they're fitting up good with the new hinges and such. I'm set up for hydraboost and will scratch out those lines as well as the working lines to the brakes. Need to research all them holes in the firewall and close up the ones I don't need. Gotta get all them bed parts straight in my head here soon too.

Helped Knuckles do a Q-Jet rebuild on his '75 too. He HATES them but I'm bringing him around. It runs pretty awesome and so does the Crummy. Q-Jet = :metal: for driveability AND some kick azz secondaries!

Got most of that done yesterday, then Boy and I spend most of today DEEP cleaning the shop. Cleared off some shelves and cabinets, pretty much filled the big-boy trash can and put some square feet back into that place!

Looks great, John. Isn't it amazing how much time you can spend on suspension, exhaust and other low visibility items? Then you hang some sheet metal and BOOM! the project takes on a completely different vibe. It's like... hey!! I've been been toiling away all along, but for some reason the cake ain't done till the icing goes on. You're making great progress despite having to deal with that pesky job thing.

Man its really coming along. Keep up the good work.

I am looking to do a hydro clutch swap soon to. Which Wilwood master did you order?

Here is the bracket I am looking at running with a OEM slavecylinder.

Thanks Greg! Glad to see cc rolling under her own power. Sadly, it's all coming apart again but it is encouraging to see it like it is now.

I'm getting the Wilwood 260-1304, which is 1.40" stroke x 0.750" bore. I'll match that up with the Novak 0.750" bore slave. I looked at the Landcruiser setup you're going with too. Either will get the job done.

Off topic but the Purdy truck is a POS. I'd noticed a harsh noise on the 1-2 shift, brought it to the dealer and took the service advisor for a ride. He heard it too, so he took their trans specialist for a ride. He heard it too and claimed it was normal and the sound was coming from a solenoid. I'm no transmission specialist or ASE anything but I am certified as a fluid power specialist and have about 20 years experience in automated fluid power systems. Been around a few solenoid valves. I felt he was trying to ram sunshine up my arse. Long story short, POS made a huge WHACK this afternoon and she's stuck in like 4th or 5th gear. Still under bumper to bumper so the tow truck is headed over in the morning and I'm looking at a service loaner. They said the transmission dude is pretty backed up so it might be a "while" before they get to mine. That buyer's remorse is kickin' in hard now boys!!!

Ok, back on topic...
I had come up just short on the mandrel bends, so I ordered up another u-bangey but in stainless. I re-made one of my hangers to get it just right and finished the exhaust out. It's exactly what I wanted it to be - stoked about this part of the build. I still have to pull it apart, weld it all out and paint it (except the stainless tips :metal:) and hang it on the wall.
I bought a slip-yoke for the trans, measured and ordered up a 4" DOM x 1310 driveline. Weld yokes had to be ordered but should be done any day now.

Knuckles scored a job at the engine/machine shop we've been using :metal:! So far he's been tearing down motors and tanking them but he's already buried the shop in cores, so they're going to start training him over on the clean side, probably in assembly first. He's diggin' it and SOMEBODY has a 327 to get started on

Did a full rebuild / restore on my chainsaw too cuz we mushed it at the end of last year. It's bad azz and I'll get a vid here soon on the Crummy page.

And when it does finally come home, the dealership will call and email you begging for 10's on their little survey. Even though they treat everyone like dummies. Fingers crossed it gets fixed correctly.

Exhaust on the '67 looks great! I like how you routed it out back. Seeing yours sitting pretty made me want to go out to the garage and take the cover off CRLS and give it a hug.

The Purdy truck saga continues. Turns out that it was in "limp mode", which only allows it to go fwd in some middle gear. By the time it got towed to the dealer it had reset itself. They say it had logged a traction control error and a TCM error. No further details. They couldn't duplicate the problem, which I guess equals fixed. BS! The did replace the rear seal in the t-case because I pointed out that it was leaking. They ignored the wet power steering hose I pointed out. Guess they need to burst before they're bad. GM Certified AND a GM check-up after I bought it. Hmm... I took the second service advisor for a spin and he too heard the crunchy noise between 1 and 2. Another appointment scheduled for Tuesday. I had a '14 for a loaner while they had mine for a WEEK and it sure doesn't make any racket like that. UGH!

On a better note, driveline is done! 4" DOM for an appropriate critical speed :metal: Wasn't cheap dudes, more than half of what I paid for the whole C10  I asked that they didn't rattle-can it. I'll degrease it, prime it and shoot it with the semi-gloss tractor paint I've been using. It was funny when I called and asked them not to paint it. "It's gonna rust you know". I laughed... "whether you paint it or not".

Clutch going in the Crummy this weekend.

Sounds like they are professionally kindly trying to keep you from getting a new transmission. Your truck is coming along nice John.

I've had a little back-n-forth with Captainfab on PM. I think my plan is to use the parts from his kit on the inside of the cab. Sounds like he can supply just the plate that lays on the firewall that he uses to fab up his adapter bracket. That'll help me locate the clutch master. It's coming...

I've spent most of the day going through this thread and a couple others. Going with a dual quad 327 and 4 speed is cool cool cool. The rolling stock choice and all. Just plain *****in. With everybody on the LS fad these days it is great to see this old school setup going in a new build. John I admire your determination. It seemed at times this rebuild would be pushed aside indefinitely while life got in the way. It's cool your son is also a gear head. He's learning some hard lessons. One of my dad's sayings I heard oh so many times was "the bought lessons you won't forget". He was right. If it costs you some pain or cash you tend to remember it better. I hope "knuckles" does take his mechanical enthusiasm to school and put it to good use. You have some serious support group too. I particularly enjoyed the 'elco' isms. ;) Keep a hammering John. I look forward to further updates.
