1972 Cheyenne Super C20 402/400, full disclosure starting with the bad:

The interior door panels are not Super Cheyenne, they're OEM standard panels. Once a very nice seat cover is bad. Dash pad is mostly gone.

Tach doesn't work, fuel gauge can be learned, speedo is 5-7 MPH too short. Lighter is missing. Headlights are dim, likely a ground issue.

Wiper motor is tired and not quite intermittent.

The replacement interior paint job was done poorly, same for the front firewall. The white paint isn't original. This truck had a 558 paint code, light blue (aka medium blue) bottom and dark blue top.

Sliding rear glass needs attention. The instrument panel grain is poor.

No heat, primarily because the heater core is bypassed. The duct is there less an S duct. The A/C isn't operable, but the system is primarily intact. The temperature controller needs attention.

It likes oil, some of which is due to leaks. It's been that way since I bought it 5-6 years ago. I've probably driven this truck 8-10K since.

The battery box leaves much to be desired.

Rust has burned through the body in spot(s) on the following.

• Upper LH windshield corner would take some work. However the rear window frame appears solid
• Doors and fenders, one spot each
• The tailgate is unfit for restoration
• The cab's RH rear corner floor
• Roof gutter
• Small areas in the front head panel.
• Spot on the firewall.

The steering wheel saw its day decades ago. This has three fuel tanks, but only the cab's tank is being used.

Chrome air cleaner and valve covers, gross;)

THE GOOD:

Nice headliner, though consistent rust on the chrome. Clean visors, clean mirrors. Very clean AM radio, works, but the signal isn't great, probably a ground issue, my guess. Nice glove box door grain, seems the ash tray too. I believe the glove box liner is factory, it's blue and in good condition.

The Edlebrock has maybe 7K on it. Elect. choke. HEI distributor.

The entire brake system was replaced approx. 7K ago, less the hardlines.

Signals and brake lights work, same for the roof lights & cargo light, and probably the reverse lights as well. Dome works, but the door jam switches are intermittent.

I haven't studied the suspension and feel no problems. Transmission is smooth, kickdown works. No indications of a an axle issue, which was serviced with the brakes. Steering could be tighter, but it drives comfortably.

Power steering was recently flushed. I haven't noted any leaks anywhere beyond motor oil.

Wheels are NICE. Western turbines, polished & clear coated. The tires have 5-6K on them.

Nice solid frame. The core support and skirts can use some light attention where they meet, but they're real good parts.

Perfect windshield molding. Clean hood and auxiliary battery tray. The cowl panel is decent.

Hardware throughout is mostly good. Good bed. Clean outer grille, and the inner grille is solid.

Clean front bumper and bumper guards. A pair of fog lights mounted on it, they look vintage but are not operating, which is probably the wiring.

Solid rear bumper. The exhaust system sounds great.

The doors and door windows are fully operational, but the roll ups windows could use new sweeps.

Newer Edlebrock carb. with electric choke on an Edlebrock manifold, and replacement fan shroud. Not for the truest perhaps but it runs well.

It's an original 402 Super A/C truck for sure. Starts every time, a blast to drive and I'll miss it.

$5500.

More rust. I checked the front LH floor corner. There's some rust but it doesn't look bad. The bed is solid short the image below. Frame is solid, no pitting noted. In summary, the body was assaulted by rust, and the rest is primarily solid.

Engine bay & interior. I'll take a pic of the undercarriage once the snow melts, it's cold:waah:

Good luck on your sale Tony - I love that truck, always have, just no room in the barn for me, otherwise I’d jump on it. 558 is a beauty of a paint combo.

I recall you took interest in the truck even before I bought it.

I just rec'd an interesting offer, I've had recent thoughts about a square body, and this guy wants to trade this. I'd like to lighten the load, but, but: The guy has a BBC C20 himself. I turned it down but am having other thoughts about it:lol: I just noticed the camper is Shadow Cruiser. I've owned two RVS; both built by the same company. Destiny?

Hello, I was curious if you might be interested in trading for a 1982 Chevy square body four-wheel drive. Runs and drives good. four-wheel drive works. I was just using it. has a title. With or without the camper.

Hmm. It’s a big block K20? How’s the interior? Low mileage? Id be having second thoughts too. :)

that blue/white is by far my favorite color combo for these trucks. but if you already have the 71, I'd trade this one for that 82 with a camper in a heart beat. it looks solid and you can have one from both eras!

Heck yeah, I heard back from the guy. He says it's all original. Transmission was rebuilt 10K ago. The choke doesn't work. I've asked how many miles on the 350 engine. Check it out. I'm going to say yes pending anything unexpected.

Re: 1972 Big Block Cheyenne Super C20

The trade wasn't practical, especially with winter. He lives 500 miles from me. That said, I just sold my truck for $5200 to someone else that lives 500 miles away. He's having a transport co. pick it up.

What a great truck its been, and so reliable. It's sat for months in the snow, but started right up today, and drives no differently. The buyer is already shopping for patch panels.

I remember back when you got that and talking about the paint scheme and wheels in different threads. I just forgot it was yours! I'm glad you could drum up* a deal you could live with.

* Yes, that is a pun

I was looking at the blue truck too. What bothered me is I don’t believe the glovebox door and subsequent SPID is not original to the truck. Anyone else see that?

Agree the SPID looks fresh, but it's my feeling it's at least a reprint. Probably not I'm guessing, the truck was "cleaned-up" at some point, but they didn't go to the trouble of any restoration. The solid truth is behind the seat in the form of a build sheet, should someone pull the seat. To verify the engine that is, because I'm 99% sure it's a YE9.

I don't believe it was uncommon to have a different color glove box lid, ash tray and such. That said, the truck's interior was repainted, quite poorly.
