For the Experts: What frame do I have?

4 Attachment(s)
Recently bought this truck and it didn't come with a lot of history. I need to replace the worn tie rod ends and I want to lower it. It is supposed to be a 61 or 62 frame but it has disc brakes and coil springs, power steering was added as well. In the rear it has a 12 bolt and it has 5x5 bolt pattern front and rear. Also I can't see where the torsion bars would have attached originally if it was a 61 or 62. I think the mount on the frame for the panhard rod was added or modified, welding doesn't look original?

You have an X frame that came on the 60 - 62 C10's. The 63 - 66 C10's had the latter frame (No X). I have the same frame on my 62.

Ok thanks, that's good to know, I wasn't sure.

Is there some way to tell what year the front suspension and rearend are from?

Also does anyone make a small bolt-in or weld in notch kit for the rear with this frame?

PorterBuilt does. There may be others:

Your front suspension could be from a 71 or 72. You can tell by the control arm bushings. 73 and up have rubber one's. If the rear is a 5 bolt then that would be out of a 71 or 72. They are the only years for coil springs and 5 lug unless someone swapped out the axles for 5 lug one's.

Thanks SkinnyG I'l have a look but I think PBFab is out of the budget for this build.

Chevy Fleetside that's great info! I wasn't aware what years had that type of bushings on the front arms. It would make sense for the rear to have been from the same truck too. Thanks!

Yes, it is a 60-62 frame, here is mine, the suspension of the torsion bars is located under the cab, they will certainly no longer have that,
I used a 63 front axle on mine and installed a disc brake.

Nice solid truck, looks like front spindle has a spacer under it between control arm, possibly tried to lower it some. Power wash time...Look at Braunschweiger's build for inspiration.

Just read your whole build thread Harald, great work on your truck!

Not sure on the spindle spacer, have to take a closer look. It's definitely due for a bath!
