Post your tool boxes!

Just curious to see what everyone else’s tool boxes look like! Post a pic and let the forum know what you work from. I’ll get it started, I use to work out of a small craftsman tool box and managed to build most of my truck from that small setup. I recently upgraded to a much larger husky and am quickly running out of room. I am just doing a little cleaning so the pics aren’t a fair usual represents of what is to be had in my garage.

I have a "hodge-podge" "mismatched" set up, mostly consisting of Kennedy, Craftsman, and Montgomery Ward Powr-Kraft. I had considered buying one big set up, but after seeing the cost, what I have works for me. There is also sentiment involved, as some of it was my Dad's and the ones I bought have been with me since '77 and '80.

I have some tool boxes. :D

Pic 1 is most of my mechanic tools
Pic 2 is the set I used to my high power and model rocketry stuff. I got rid of that and am putting wood working equipment in it, slowly
Pic 3 is used for wood working tools, as well
Pic 4 is sets of cabinets containing circular saws, stained glass and leather working tools, paint brushes and other supplies.
Pi5 5 is a chest for my larger wood carving tools. The chest on top of it contains a lot of old drafting tools.

Can only load 5 pics, so the next post will have the other two.

Pic one is a 10-drawer chest that used to hold 3 X 5 cards. I took all the guts out of the drawers. It has my metal working tools like hammers and such. To the right you can see some two-drawer cabinets. There are five of them around the garage, with various tools like battery chargers, a bench grinder, etc.

Pic two is is a small chest used to hold my smaller carving tools. It's portable so that I can take it places.

Not pictured are my table saw, a stack of planer/sander/drill press, a router table and and a carving bench.

I need a bigger place to work! I barely have room to move in there.

Here is what I originally built my truck out of! Crazy to think back to doing all that with so little. It really shows you how simple these trucks are when they are original. This is pretty cool to see what everyone else has to work from. I’ve always said it doesn’t matter what’s in the toolbox but rather how hard you want to work at it. I also believe whole heartedly that having the right tool is the way to go.

I don't have any less a portable hand held for handy, and two portables with tools I generally don't use. Other than that peg-board, trays, hangers & shelves. That and a cool three drawer piece of furniture for mostly specialty tools, $8 thrift store, nobody else saw the beauty in it I guess, works like a well designed roll away but lighter duty.

B/A tool sheds, I mean boxes are cool and all, but they're a luxury I don't need, I already blow too much $, and don't have the room for it anyway. Best day of my life was a small respected roll away, B/A file cabinet and store-bought work bench. Second best is when I got rid of all of it:lol:

Tell you I really like that wooden box and chest of Steeveedee's, last pic. post 3.

Alright here's most of my set-up, it's a bit frightening.

Not all my tools are stored here but most. It's sort of the wall of tool storage and work benches. One of the best items is in the far right of the photo. That cabinet my father in law gave me a few years ago. Swing those doors open and there are six shelves with about eight drawers on each shelf to store nuts, bolts, bearings, fuses, and all sorts of stuff. Each drawer has a place for a card to label them for what is inside. One of the best things I've ever been given and my kids will cuss me for all the junk in it when I am gone.

Got a home made shelf in the other corner that stores oils, filters, and a few other things. Mainly ammo but I don't show photos of what my wife calls the ammo dump.

I have the small tool box pictured and am waiting for the larger one to come in. Harbor Freight's tool boxes are perfect for what I need.

You can see my main box in the background here. It's an old Snapon base cabinet with Craftsman intermediate and top box. I use another Waterloo base cabinet to house all of my drill bits, centering bits, hole saws, taps, and dies over by the drill press. A Kennedy base cabinet houses the "house tools" up at the attached garage.

My son is a Cat mechanic at the Cat dealership, he went thru an apprenticeship/scholarship program right out of high school.
They call the students Cat kids at the community college he went to.
Part of the program is that the kids get a tool box and tools, delivered to the CC, after graduation they agree to work for Cat for 2-3 year period.
My son bought this box off of one of the new Cat Kids, because he was upgrading to something fancy off the tool truck!
It showed up in my shop a couple of months ago. I'm thinking about moving my stuff into it. Right now I'm working out of twin Craftsman boxes that have seen better days.

Mine appears to be the same as Woodnears. It has been pretty good, but if I had it to do over, I would have gone with something with a smooth finish. That texture holds onto dust in the cabinet shop. It looks bad when the lid is down because it has a sloped front edge.
It holds the smaller stuff like drills, impact drivers and their associated bits, plus all of the usual hand tools, chisels and even a 10mm socket. (usually)
The main equipment, routers, saws, etc. all fits in the pull-out boxes directly behind the bench.

Here’s mine. I have a 72” harbor freight box cause I’m no professional! I store my nuts and bolts in the grey card dividers.
I also have a bunch of Vidmar boxes to store my truck parts. Now that I’m selling off my parts, I will have a lot of extra space! Lol Anyway, enjoy my pics and thank you all for sharing your pics!

40 year old Matco box, I repainted it satin black and added some carbon fiber vehicle wrap to the drawer fronts a couple years ago. Good for another 40...
