I took the little truck out for a drive around the neighborhood with each of my grandkids yesterday. They all enjoyed it as much as I did. :metal:[ looks like I'm talking in all the pictures ]

Re: Another Blue Chevy

I live within 2 miles of the show , so I was able to drive to town in second gear , otherwise other than driving around the block with the grandkids I haven't had the truck out since October. Today I got a call saying the transmission a friend had up at the ranch was now ready for pickup at his shop in town. I will be glad to get the truck fixed right so I can drive wheels off. :metal:

I got it home and spent all afternoon cleaning off 88 years of grease and dirt, not quite clean enough yet. Talking with the gentleman that had it he said the truck it came from was the Florence post office mail truck for their rural route when it was new. My Stepdad, Mother and Wife all delivered mail out of that post office.

Tranny Fun (I hope)

I'll go make some popcorn, this should be fun .

I hope you've discovered an older F.L.A.P.S. with a printed BOWER/BCA catalog for the bearing part numbers .

When I worked on old gearboxes like this in the 1970's all the roller bearings were right on the shelf .

Once the rollers in the bag were the wrong size, (visibly) , I had to talk the counterman who knew nothing about how things actually work into ordering another bag of rollers, a real learning moment for him when he matched the next order with the ones on the shelf...

I'm keen to see what you find inside .

I ass-U-me you're going to lay out all the parts side by side and cherry pick the best one before re assembly ? .

Be sure to inspect the snap ring on the front input shaft's new bearing ~ I once got one with a slightly thicker snap ring and it broke the bearing retainer when I buttoned it up .

I'm installing it as is . It is shifting nicely and I don't feel any play. I will be taking the one that is in it now apart and building a spare.

Started the changeout at 10am Monday and was done (including putting away my tools) by 7pm and it looks and works well. I took it to Tuesday car meet. Nice to have it done.

You're welcome but it's you who deserves thanks ! .

Sadly I no longer own any i6 powered anything and I miss it / them greatly .

I hope your new/old tranny works out fine .

I miss working on them too ;) .

I'm currently up to my elbows in a transaxle repair on my 1959 # 113 VW, the list of "Might As Wells" is massive .

MUNGO JERRY ! sweet .

Great Picture:metal:

Looks like Some Good Memories;)

That just brought back a Memory for me.

I remember (Now) the First vehicle I drove
With my Daddy's help.
I think it was a 68 Ranchero.
I remember the red vinyl seat with the diamond pattern the most.

I was probably 10 years old.
I was steering and Daddy was beside me On the brake and Gas.

VWNate1 06-12-2023 12:18 PM

Vehicular Memories

I think the first vehicle I ever drove was the rusted out '59 Ford F100 from Ayers A.F.B. I dragged out of a muddy field in....? 1968 ? and got running used old license tags to make a floor for it .

When my son was about 8 I had him try to drive my '46 Chevy 3100 series shop truck, he was so nervous he'd crank the steering all the way one way or the other .

Good memories , he's a far better driver / Motocycle rider than I ever was .
