How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
So I saw on chevy's performance website and I saw they're already offering a new LT1 crate engine...mind you it is $11k for one of these. So how long you guys think it'll be before so one swaps one into our trucks? If I had the funds I wouldn't hesitate to do it.

Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
We are working with one of our big customers, he purchased a LT1 crate late last year from GM. At the time he was the ONLY person to have purchased a crate from GM. He has some connections!
Anyhow, we are just about finished with our Gen V R&D. Once that is taken care of, he will get it up and going on his engine Dyno. Im sure it wont be long after that he will send pictures of it in one of his customer's cars! They already have installed one in an older stingray, but that was a GMPP deal there. Bill |
Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
Well looks like they putting one in Jimmie Johnson's 71 Corvette....http://www.chevrolet.com/culture/art...corvette.html# Those old corvettes just look awesome.

Looks like u can buy a 4L70e trans from chevy performance to work with the lt1 so at least we know the older trans works...wonder how a t56 would fit on there? I was looking at the motor and i dont think the stock exhaust manifold would work on our trucks...i could be wrong..

Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
On the 2013 Hot Rod power tour you could buy the whole thing. Motor, trans, wiring everything from the GM tent. They had people there that could tell you anything you wanted to know about it. Complete kits where around $25,000 if I remember correctly.:chevy:

Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
See I'm assuming every project has been with a crate motor right? I can't imagine people have had too much luck with a pullout for something like that. I don't see ultra-late-model vette's in the wrecking yard much lol

I think the "footprint" of the LT1 is the same as the LS engines.

On a side note, I have seen a new 2014 Silverado in the late model salvage yard around here, 7000 miles, $3500. http://www.car-part.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi I'd like to have one, and in time I will!!! |
Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
No I mean if they are ending up there, someone else is getting a phone call before me. You won't "just happen to find" them too often, at least not where I live. Milwaukee doesn't have the wealth-density that maybe the Chicago area does, it might be different if I tried there (but I'm not really looking lol)

Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
IMO it will take some time to really see them in projects. First you have the new ECM but I think the bigger struggle will be with the direct injection in performance applications like the addition of a turbo.

Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
There are tons of them on car part dot com starting at $3k.

Hart you are right on how to tune them, I was more talking the software to do it. On the direct injection side I am talking about the physical injector being the road block for a little while.

I don't really have much interest in a stock crate anything from GMPP. I'm looking forward to bigger injectors, higher pressure/flow fuel pumps, and forged internals for these gen 5 bullets to see what kind of potential they have with the wick turned up on some boost. |
Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
I just hope that LT1 performance parts don't end up costing what Duramax performance stuff does.
$1600 for a hot-rod CP3 pump.....$4200 for a set of 20% over injectors... I got out of the diesel performance game years ago due to the ridiculous costs of modding a direct injection deal. Makes building a high-zoot big block chevy deal look like a bargain... |

Oh and I agree I hope it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to make power! Quote:

Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
I usually get to play with versions of HPT before they see normal release, so I'll gladly let you know what I hear in the pipeline. While I'm not a pro tuner, sometimes it pays to know someone who is.

Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
Picked up 43 rear wheel horse power on a totally stock truck last month. Power is in the fueling unlike the lsx factory pcm's.

Re: How long before we see an LT1 in our trucks
Ya that's the case with most DI motors. Problem is when you need more fuel and pressure, then it gets expensive!
