5.3l swap into 79 k10

Replacing the 350 that spun a rod in my little brothers truck with a 5.3l with 55k on it. Already have most of the parts gathered up to do the swap and have the computer sent out being tuned and emissions garbage removed right now. Took the wiring harness apart last weekend and got arid of all of the emissions related and other unnecessaries also.

We made some adapter plates similar to these
http://ls1motormounts.co.cc/image/tr...-mount-kit.jpg Set the motor into the frame with these bolted up to the stock SBC clamshell mounts then to the pads in the frame and we are way off.

He had a 4speed in the truck and removed it and installed a th350. He mounted the trans crossmember in the closest holes in the frame to the front end of the truck. Currently with the engine sitting in the frame rails and the trans sitting on the mount we are like 2 inches apart?!?!

Cant find very much information on the 4x4 swap, Lots out there for the 2wd's though.

Can anyone give use a hand with this? I can get pictures of how everything sits currently if needed.

Thanks alot

which part is off? Can you not get the mounts into the pedestal, or you can't get the pedestal into the holes on the frame?

You may want to remove the trans crossmemeber from the bolt holes, then set the engine into the correct spot. Then drill new holes for the trans cross member... it ends up being much easier to drill 4 holes in the flat frame, then try to redo everything up front.

Problem with moving the trans X member in a 4x4 is you then have 2 drive shafts to lengthen or shorten.

I can't see your pic right now(might be me, I'm at work) but you may want to look at 85burb's build thread and see what mounts he used in his 4X4.

Re: 5.3l swap into 79 k10

little brother pulled the 350 and 4 speed outta the truck when the 350 started knocking. He installed a th350 and matching tcase out of another truck and says he installed the trans crossmember in the front set of holes in the frame, Im assuming there is 2 sets of holes in the frame probably 1 for the 4 speed trucks and 1 for the auto trucks. We made some mounts like the ones pictured above and set the engine in between the frame rails and bolted the mounts all up. With it bolted up to the stock mounts in the frame there is like a 2" gap between the transmission, The way we sit now the motor needs to go back more or the trans needs to come forward but we havent been able to find anyone else having this problem so im worried we did something wrong.

I can get some pictures if you guys would like of how everything is sitting currently in the truck.

I see that 85burb used Dingo Slider mounts, We would like to avoid those because of the cost($150) if at all possible, but if those are the only mounts that work for a 4x4 thats the way we will have to go.

Anybody got any ideas if those mounts will even work(the ones I made like the picture in my 1st post) in a 4x4?

Any other members who have made the swap in a 4x4 that I may be able steal some info from?

I'm using the mount brackets from http://dirtydingo.com/store/ They seem to work. but I have not completely bolted the motor in yet.
