Transmission Options

Hi all! New to Suburbans and Panels. Coming over from the short wheelbase side, hence the name.

I just picked up a 71 K20 roller (Pictures coming soon) without a SPID and I'm wondering what engine/transmission it came with. Hump has the Transfer case shifter hole and column is automatic. But were these TH350, similar to the blazers/trucks? Or was the 400 already in play in 1971, or Other? It appears to have the NP205 still in it.

Excited to get this thing going as I hunt for just about everything it needs. Which is, everything. ha!

Congratulations on the new rig!
T350s had the crossmember in the front set of holes in the frame and the T400s used the rear set of holes. That may ID the transmission.
Post a picture of the front crossmember showing the frame stands for the motor mounts. Someone here will be able ID them as to being SBC, BBC, or I6.

These two are what I have. From the vin, I can see it’s a 71 V8 built in Fremont. Outside of that, I’m in the dark.

Looks like front holes are used

Cut the cloth off the front of the case and lets have look at the adapter. More than likely the 4x will have a 4 bolt adapter and a 27 spline male input gear indicating a T350 which was more prevalent in the 4x4s. 400s were mostly seen in the 2wd version

Re: Transmission Options

AFAIK the TH400 was never offered in a 4x4 in 67-72. A TH350 is stock. Though a lot can happen in 50 years.
