Trickle Charging Won't Stop
I've got an Optima red top in my truck that's getting close to 3 years old. Since I have some electronics that constantly draw a small current (clock, stereo) and since I may go for weeks at a time not driving it, I have it on a charger that maintains the battery and has an automatic shut off. The battery seems to hold a charge OK- a little over 12 volts (motor off) and the alternator seems to be doing it's job- about 14.3 running- everything seems fine. However, I noticed last night by charger seems to build up to read about 14.2 volts and never stops charging. I know the charger is good. What's going on here?
Thanks. |
Re: Trickle Charging Won't Stop
Does the charger have a setting for different style batteries ie
AGM type, conventional batteries 6v or 12 volts. The voltage reading sure is high |
Re: Trickle Charging Won't Stop
Charger does have settings for various battery type . Mine is set to 12v AGM. I finally disconnected the charger and let it set overnight. Reconnected and it to the charger and went to into float mode quickly. I'm guessing I connected it to a hot battery. Never underestimate Arizona in July.

Glad you were able to get it sorted out.
Never would have thought that battery temp would affect a battery charger |
