"One really slow build" thread

His guys,
This is my 67 LWB, that I am currently trying to get on the road (soon to be a daily work-horse)

I am on the tail end of installing a freshly rebuilt 350 & a good used 400 trans

So far the only customization is we have extensively modded a 84 Chevy tilt column to fit

The future holds air-ride suspension & a whole lot a other stuff I haven't thought of yet

Today I started to install a 98 Chevy rear bench seat (came out of my dads 98 4 door), so I thought I'd share pics (it's so nice having a seat that flips forward) One thing I don't like about it is that it's too tall IMO, but the stock one was about the same (some day I'll chop the mounts down)

The front holes lined up really close (just had to pry a little to get one of the bolts in), now I need to drill new rear holes & weld a nut to a big washer or piece of metal then weld that to the bottom of my cab that way it's like factory

Today I also started building a new cross-member for the trans, so it won't be such a butt to run my exhaust

I built this one in hopes that I would have enough clearance, but may have to build one out of tubing so that I can bend it to have even more clearance

I used a piece of C-channel I had laying around & a little angle, all thats left is to drill holes & paint it

That '98 seat is about as good as it gets for those trucks - very comfortable and look nice, but a little hard to find.

Re: "One really slow build" thread

Lucky for me, my dad does construction and removed his rear seat so he could haul more tools

I was gonna put it in my 54 ford, but that project is on long term hold

It was really nasty from sitting outside in the 54, so it took awhile to clean

Here's my buddy Scott, we did our own "Simple Green" commercial

We had already cleaned the back before I thought to get pics  but the pics don't really show how nasty it realy was :barf:

I didn't have much time at the shop today, but I'm almost ready to put in my X-member I built

I got the old one pulled out & the holes drilled in my new one, now I need to test fit it and drill the holes in the frame then paint it and put it in for good

I didn't have time to get pics, but should tomorrow

Re: "One really slow build" thread

Well here is an update

I didn't get out to the shop till late (again), but I did get some stuff done :metal:

I wanted to convert my truck to cable throttle instead of the old linkage stuff
At first I was just gonna buy one of Jegs throttle plate thingys (till I found out that they're $80 bucks  ) so today I decided to make one :metal:

I took a sheet of steel sheet that I had lay'n around & took the throttle mount thingy from a 73 parts truck that has a BOP engine in it

Anywho you get the picture, So now I have to figure out how to convert it to swing-pedal :barf:

I have to get a new trans mount, then I can finish my custom X-member

Re: "One really slow build" thread

Ok, made a little more progress today :metal:

I got my trans X-member almost bolted in (gotta drill holes in the frame) woulda had it in but some of the PO's (previous owners) drilled / torched a bunch of holes in the area I need to drill

So I plan to weld these holes up so that it's not so week

I also got my throttle plate finished (just had to trim the edge & bolt it on)

:blah: On with the pics

Re: "One really slow build" thread

I also started my swing pedal conversion, but ran into a snag, the trans I'm running is a 400 so it has kick-down switch
Well the swing setup I'm using is off of an early square-body & has the switch mounted to the plate that holds the pedal on & when you bend the pedal arm over so that it'll align with the cable it hits the switch
So I bent the switch bracket over, & it worked (so I thought) but when I got it over to the truck I realized that it wouldn't work because the pedal arm wasn't even close to the switch

So I will have to either build a new switch bracket, pedal rod, or both :whine:

Oh yeah, I also had to cut the top off of the bracket

Re: "One really slow build" thread

Has anybody else done the conversion, with the switch for the 400

Also, what do you do for where the cable comes through the fire-wall (it has a square hole & I don't have a drill-bit that does those)
I was just thinking about taking a hole-saw to my parts truck & cutting out the square hole ?
