It's a speed metal play on "Rust Never Sleeps". "Creeping Death" sounded way cooler. Plus being a Metallica fan... it just fit. One day I'll get a vanity plate that says "CRPGDTH". Or something like that. :)

Thanks mang! I am truly lucky to have a gal that is just as comfortable welding and wrenching as she is shopping for shoes. She loves to hunt and fish too. I am a very happy man. :)

I was thinking about that this morning. It's only down about 1.5" now in the front. And that was from a coil chop my dad and I did. Rear is leaf sprung. I've already done a 2" shackle drop back there, and removed he overload springs (which got me another 3/4"). If I drop it in the front more, I'll have to go ahead and do a leaf drop too. That might have to wait until this fall so I can save up the cash to do I. Prolly go with all CPP stuff. :)

Nice truck. Like what you have done to it. Visited some friends stationed at the NAS Whidbey Island a few years ago. A beautiful part of the world. Are you in the Navy?

It's a pretty cool place to live. :) I used to be in the Navy. Did 20 years and then retired back in '06.

My favorite movie of all time. That movie started my obsession with hotrods. Especially '55 Chevy's. :)

Gary, you've been a real help with all my engine questions as I've built (or started to, lol) my truck. Just now read your thread, and I really like your truck!! I love an old farm truck that's not quite what it seems. BTW, congrats on the wedding, and best wishes!!

Hi. Nice progress on the truck. Hope you were not involved in the houses sliding down the mountain on Whidbey Island, pretty scary.

Great job Gary..Looks incredible..Your build was exactly what I had in mind when I started my little project before I succumbed to the "as long as I got this apart I may as well replace that" syndrome which has added a bunch of work and time. Your officially my inspiration for my next truck...damn did I just say that?

dang nice truck man!!! im just now getting started on my 1985 k5 blazer. Just got the lift on it yesterday but I plan to do a frame off restoration soon. Your not gonna believe this but I'm only 15 and I've been working as a mechanic for 8 years. My dad runs a business here in Fayettville and he taught me nearly everything he knows starting when I was five. Anyways, I bought the Blazer a few months ago, didnt have an engine in it when I bought it. I found a 4 bolt main 350 and dropped it in there (came out of an r.v.). After changing the oil 5 times in 2 days (heads were gunked up bad) I bolted up an edelbrock intake with a holley carburetor. A few weeks after that, I found out somebody changed the rear end from a 3.73 to a 2.73, although they didnt change the front axle out... You see the problem there??? Idiots i swear. So I dropped the rear end and put the 3.73 up in there. that sucker will THROW you back in your seat now. Torquey!!!! Heres a picture with the lift I put on there yesterday. More Pics to come, will start my own tread once i get going on the frame off restorationAttachment 1090246

Re: Creeping Death

That's a beautiful truck Gary, looks like you found every man's dream truck to start with, I just found this today linked from the LBBTH thread. I believe this is the first build I've seen here that didn't involve rust repair and repaint, or at least paint repair. Not so sure how "low buck" it was with all the engine, transmission, rear end and suspension rebuilding you did tho, even on the cheap you still tie up a lot of $ in that stuff:lol:. Looks like you did it right tho, and the end result is surely worth way more than what you've got in it. I'm jealous, your truck is exactly what my dream truck looks like in my head. Have you done anything (major) to the interior yet? And what was up with the receiver hitch on the front?;) Again, beautiful truck, and inspiring build! Thanks for sharing it.

That's a great rebuild. I like the photo history. A lot of ground covered in just a few photos. Looks like a solid truck. A friend had a Gold 68-72 and I cannot remember the exact year. But, I like that body style. He shoulda kept that one. I have wanted a 68-72 K-5 Blazer with the fully removable top also, but never bought one.

Very nice work, Gary!

Re: Creeping Death

Sorry I haven't been by this thread in awhile. I've been posting more in the "Out of the Ditch" thread after I wrecked the truck. Thanks for all the kind words and I'm glad there are some cats out there that like the old heap. :) Hoping to have it back on the road this summer!

Triumphleroy... sorry to say my poor ol' Chocolate Lab "Yukon" passed away a few years back. He was an awesome shop dog and I miss him every day. When I met my current wife she had a Yellow Lab named Maggie. So Maggie has kinda taken up for ol' Yukon. Mags is 6 years old, so we got a lot of good years left with her. :)

love the truck. I am transferring up to Whidbey Island in July. I need to get my 5.3 in my truck as soon as I can so that I can have it to drive until my wife and kids follow me up next January. Nice to know another C10 enthusiast will be up there too.

Skip... truck was wrecked a while back. Here is the "rebuild" thread and a link in it to when I wrecked it. http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=620369

Been all uphill from there. Will be on the downward slide soon.

I got to NAS Whidbey in 1991 when the Intruders were still flying. I was also stationed on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) and watched the last trap and launch in history of an A-6E Intruder from the flight deck. Cool and sad at the same time to lose such an awesome platform that delivered a massive payload of ordnance.
