New from Tucson 1st gen blazer

5 Attachment(s)
I just joined and posted this already in the general section, but it was suggested that I say hello here and post more pictures.

I just bought a 72 blazer off ebay and am awaiting the transport company to pick it up and bring it to me.

It has 35's, a 4" suspension lift, 4 speed manual, 350, and a fresh bright yellow paint job. I don't know a lot about the history of the vehicle, but most of the rust has been repaired and it needs some minor things. First project upon arrival will be to get the seats redone.

I plan on keeping it topless and start doing some off-roading. Once I can get a little confidence in the mechanical ability of the truck.

I had a 74 in high school so I'm familiar with blazers in general and some of the issues. I've got a decent workshop and garage, but not a lot of knowledge. Thanks in advance for any help and especially your patience.

I wonder if you'll have issues with the single plane intake on the motor? Usually those suck down low which is where you'll be when wheeling. Looks Nice I hope it is that way in person. My mom lives in Tucson Maybe I can stop and check it out next time I'm in town?

EDIT: There's no top?! That'll cost you a bit to replace, LMK if you decide you need one.

What is a single plane intake? Is there a better alternative?

I'm always up for meeting new people, anytime you are in town let me know via PM. I'm anxious to get it and the shipping company hasn't even located a carrier yet. Such is life.

It does have a top, just not pictured. I'm going to keep it off for the most part.

A single plane intake is generally designed for higher rpm use. You normally would find a dual plane intake on one of our heavy vehicles as it gives better low end power and better street driveability. See how the vehicle drives once you get it. Then you can decide if you should change it. An intake swap is pretty simple and the guys in the Engine/Drivetrain section can walk you right through that.

I should have known there would be a snag somewhere. The shipping company STILL hasn't found a carrier. They tell me that the lift and tires are making it hard to find a carrier that would want to take it. Not much I can do except wait.

Looks Sweet..... With that color I'd toss some new chrome bumpers on the front and back. It'd really make the truck. How far away is it from ya? Fly out to it and drive it home..... That'd be an awesome road trip! PM LUV2XCLR8. He had a big blazer shipped awhile back, might be able to give you some help.

The chromer front and rear bumpers would look great. I saw a pair of them on ebay, I might bid on those.

I am also looking for a push bumper to go on top of the regular front bumper, something I can mount a couple KC lites on. Any suggestions?

Re: New from Tucson 1st gen blazer

Shipping nightmare...yes - been there done that...

Went with a local Ohio company - Specialty Mobile Systems - they farmed out the job to a Washington company and it took them over two weeks to get it to me.

I had them lock in a price quote - then called them to tell them it had a 6" lift and 35" tires. they raised the price a little bit...

Then (3 days later) I called and they told me that they couldn't find a carrier to do it for the cost that I was quoted. I told them that I had even called to let them know that the truck didn't have the stock lift, the price raised accordingly and that it was their problem to resolve it and get my truck to me within a reasonable time period. Well 1 week later - I had the truck.

Yes - it was a PITA dealing with the shipping company, but the truck arrived unharmed (well broken passenger side mirror glass = ~$10) and that was it.

Good luck with shipping the truck and I hope that it arrives in good condition. Post some more pix when you get it.

Ohh - and welcome to the best truck board on the internet (from Ohio) - you will be glad you paid $25 to join - since I have already had to post several WTB threads for parts that I need to acquire and replace.

Lks Dcvn

I'm scheduled for an early pickup tomorrow, and delivery some time next week. At least now I can get excited about it actually getting here and not sitting somewhere in limbo.

First thing is getting the front seats redone so my wife doesn't have to sit on duct tape.

Re: New from Tucson 1st gen blazer

Welcome from AR. I was stationed at DM, from 69-71, so I have a soft spot for Tucson. Nice looking Blazer, too. I remember cruising on Speedway Blvd, but there were a lot of other places, too. I worked for a convenience store called Quik Mart....got to work at all 9 of them, from time-to-time. I know the place has changed a lot since I was there. But, glad to have you on the board. This is the place to get information, parts and friendship. It's a good-natured bunch of folks who, on occasion, agree and disagree on stuff, but it's all good.

I drove a CJ5 out toward Apache Pass, and up to an old mining claim with the claim in a Prince Albert can and dated May of 1940. It was just like you saw them when I was a kid....a pile of rocks in front of their dig. The address on the claim was (as I remember) 113 Meyer. We drove by the house after finding the claim, but it was obvious the passing 30 years had seen the previous occupants move on. Still, it was interesting.
